Keeping lettuce fresh

I am so fed up of buying an iceberg lettuce and it going off after a couple of days. Such a waste. I don’t have a salad drawer in my fridge so what can I do to preferably keeping it fresh for 4-5 days or is it impossible?

My salad spinner is here! Do I spin tomatoes and cucumber and onion in it?

no.
wash cucumber/peppers/tomatos before chopping and pat dry

try using pumpkin seed oil in the dressing. Absolutely the best!

I've just stumbled on this thread....for the lettuce washing, spinning, storage...are you cutting/peeling the leaves off first before washing and spinning? I guess you couldn't spin a whole lettuce!
I like mind finely shredded....would it be best to peel leaves off if the whole leave to wash/spin/store... or should this method work if I finely shred, wash, spin?

Keeping lettuce fresh? Cut a bit off the bottom and put the newly cut bottom into cold water in a basin that stands on the cold pantry floor. Put, I think, a piece of coal into the water.

I always feel guilty about not eating enough salad. Some of the earlier ideas were really good - thank you for them.
