Any experts on trains in the Netherlands??

I'm trying to get tickets from Delft to Amsterdam but it's so expensive! Are there any discounts for families I've overlooked? Also the tickets are much cheaper on ns.nl with "Flex Dal Voordeel". Is this legit? Thanks.

I’m not an expert but I live in NL and use trains regularly. Train from delft to Amsterdam is only €14.50, according to my travel planner?

OwlBasket · 13/08/2022 20:46

Sorry posted too soon. ns.nl is totally legit, here’s a link for the available discounts https://www.ns.nl/en/nsflex/webshop#/bestelling/producten

Are you traveling with a family? Kids can go for 2.50 per day anywhere in the Netherlands on a railrunner ticket.

Flex Dal Voordeel you can only buy with a personalised travel card, for which you need to be registered in the Netherlands I think.

Thanks. Unfortunately I thought my kids would count as kids but at 12 they are already adults which makes it pricey! Looking again though I think we could get an off peak group ticket which would help a bit!

If you're not travelling at peak times, you can use a Groepsticket daluren. You buy it for a fixed price, depending on the number of people travelling together. It is a one-way ticket though.

If you install the NS app you can buy a Jongeren Dal ticket which lets them travel all day for 7.60.

I think the group ticket is your best bet, 35 euros isn't bad.

Do keep in mind that on certain trains you have to pay extra, it's IC direct trains that go between Schiphol and Rotterdam. I think you can avoid that by travelling through Amsterdam Centraal. I never travel that way so don't know the finer details.

I wouldn’t stress too much about booking right now. Trains are reliable and frequent. Most Dutch people speak enough English to help you out and there is great tourist info in Amsterdam and at the airport.

I just traveled in Holland very cheaply with teens (16, 19)

I used "groepsticket Daluren" on www.ns.nl

That is a group ticket for off peak hours (think after 9 and before 4, and then again after 7:30) on weekdays

NS.nl

Is a legit site

Thanks everyone! I now have the app and the group ticket!
