Could I be pregnant? New to this...

I'd quite like to hear some opinions, please. I'm new to all this and despite having a good look online, I'm a bit confused, so any help would be absolutely lovely, please!

I’ve always had textbook periods, I use an app (Flo) and it’s always been accurate (one day off from time to time MAX). I’ve had unprotected sex a few times over the past 2 months (can’t remember exact days). I’ve looked online for answers but would like some advice here, please.

Last period: Started on 20th July
Next period due: 19th August

Last ovulation: 31st July - 6th August
Next ovulation: 31st August - 6th September

My symptoms this past month (that I have never had before during my cycle, as I said, it’s always been textbook with zero issues)

  • Quite intense cramps about a week after my last period. Some cramps on and off since then, some worse than others.
  • Emotions have been all over the place. Was more prominent in first 2 weeks since last period, now it’s less but still there. (This isn’t usual for me, I’m usually very balanced emotions wide except for period week)
  • Been more tired than usual (usually don’t suffer from tiredness particularly, can go to bed late and get up early with no issues), have been falling asleep on the sofa (a few times) both during the day and in the evening.
  • Partner commented that my boobs look bigger
  • Boobs have been tender, usually only have this during my period, not before.
  • Pink discharge, noticed yesterday evening, more prominent today.
  • Have been bloated more often than usual (I believe I have digestion issues in general, but stomach is usually flat in the morning despite what I ate day before. For past month I’ve had mornings where I’m still bloated)

So, what do you think? Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated. I’m new to this. I have 2 pregnancy tests but not too sure when to take them, so any advice on that would also be great.

Thank you in advance :)

My opinion is you should take a test and stop torturing yourself.

Unprotected sex = chance of pregnancy, so asking if you could be pregnant then the obvious answer is yes. All the things you listed point to pregnancy as a possibility also.

Do you WANT to be pregnant?

Squiff70 · 13/08/2022 13:49

In terms of when to take a test, it depends on the brand and sensitivity of the test. Some detect HCG (pregnancy hormone) from the day your next period is expected, whilst other more sensitive tests can detect HCG UPTO six days before your period is expected!

The problem is op that any pregnancy symptom you could have now would just be the same as normal symptoms before af so the only way to know is to just do a test as symptom spotting does not work 🤨

New to this ??

How can you be new to the fact that unprotected sex may = pregnant ?

Take a test

Driedwildflower · 13/08/2022 13:52

Yes, would love to be pregnant :) I thought you could only take the test on the day of your missed period (that's what the leaflet says)? But I don't know if I've missed a period yet, I've had the above symptoms since my last period and next one is due on 19th. I bought Clearblue ones, not the ones that say "Pregnant" or "Not pregnant" but the ones with the lines.

I know that 😁I mean new to having symptoms that I don't usually have and not knowing what they mean. I've only ever needed to take one pregnancy test before, was on the pill for years and never had a scare (periods always on time). I came off the pill about 2 years ago and only had unprotected sex for the first time a couple of months ago, then another couple of times since then.

Take a test on the 19th. You can take one before that but the result won’t be definitive if it’s negative/so faint a positive that it could be an evaporation line.

Thank you! Maybe a silly question, but as I said, first time doing all of this. If I do get my period as normal on the 19th, do I still take a test? I understand that it's possible to still get a period if you're pregnant, especially if it's early stages?

I started testing about 5 days before my period was due and I was getting faint lines

DustinsHat · 13/08/2022 14:16

All the things you've mentioned are due to progesterone increase which happens between ovulation and your period starting whether you're pregnant or not. You just tend not to notice when you're not symptom spotting. So none of us can know - just take a test on the 19th or a day or two before if you don't want to wait. Fingers crossed for you!

No, you probably don't take a test, if it looks like a normal period.

You don't get periods when you're pregnant. Sometimes people have episodes of bleeding, or implantation bleeds that they mistake for a period. Very rarely you will continue to have monthly 'periods' - they aren't really periods in the usual sense of the word, just bleeding that coincides with your usual cycle. That's v unusual though.

Driedwildflower · 14/08/2022 11:54

I'll take a test in a couple of days and see then. The pinkish discharge has been replaced with brown since last night and ongoing today so far, which again is strange as I usually only get that for about half a day before my actual period starts, which is still 5 days away according to my app.

Strange coincidence if all of the above symptoms are just down to an earlier period as it's never happened before, but I'll find out soon and will cross my fingers that the test is positive!
