Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I've been up a while, sitting in my kitchen where it's cool, enjoying a coffee in the quiet. The washer's on, I've tidied round a bit, and checked on dd2's mantis to make sure she has some water droplets if she wants a drink.

I'm off to wake the girls up at half past - we're going for a walk into town I think, both need school shoes so hoping to get those.

When we get in, we're going to sit down and start working on putting some pages of Cain's Jawbone in order. Dd1 has made LOADS of notes on it on her phone...mine are in a notebook until dd2 finishes reading through the physical copy we have 🤣

I think it'll be salad and quiche for tea, certainly nothing heavy in this heat. Fruit, from the market, and ice cream for afters 😋

Later on, we'll either work on the book a bit more, or (more likely!) Dd1 will carry on watching Gilmore Girls, Dd2 will Minecraft with her friend, and I'll crochet or read.

What about all of you? 🙂

Loved watching Gilmore Girls with mine.

No definite plans here but I hope some decluttering and long washes for bedding to make the most of the weather.

Morning!
I walked to the river at 7am and enjoyed my first coffee.
Having given DS a choice of activities, we’ve ended up at soft play.
DH is out for a bike ride.
BBQ lunch and a water fight, then we’re going to watch the latest James Bond film.

YellowPlumbob · 13/08/2022 10:07

Unpacking my house and trying not to pass out in this heat! It’s chaos here and I cannot rest until it’s done; but the heat is making it extremely difficult.

Lying in after a busy week and far too much going out (weds Thurs and Fri Shock) Am staying with DP for a couple of nights, I love it because I don't do anything except a bit of the other... we might go wild swimming later though I'd expect any body of water will be packed.

TeddyTed · 13/08/2022 10:13

Have had a lazy morning so far (lack of sleep overnight in the heat), about to make up for it by going out for a bike ride. Meeting my mum and dad for tea later and to watch the football. That does mean squeezing into a warm pub to watch the match, unfortunately, but dad is looking forward to it so I don’t want to cancel. Might get some water bottles in the freezer for when we get in later. 🥵

Hi Lucysmam
I think we met once at Briarlands Farm (I used to be StirlingMum). Hope you are doing well 😊

Anyhoo, I am going to Edinburgh Fringe today. My oldest DS is 23 now and he suggested we meet there and have a walk around. Hope it’s not too hot but then we can always stop for a cold drink - it’d be rude not to 😊

Morning all!

DSC arrived back from holiday with their DM yesterday so normal noisy service has resumed!

I'm currently having a lovely cup of tea, reading the BBC history magazine and waiting for DH to get up.

We are going out for a pub lunch with both DH family and my family later for my nephews birthday. DN is on my DH side but my parents always come too and it's makes me grateful for a family that gets on so well!

Also sweltering but I've given up on trying to solve that problem over the past few days!

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 13/08/2022 10:18

I have the place to myself…all day.

Pure pure luxury.

had a lovely shower, fruity toast for breakfast and a coffee.
Just lying around. Lazy, enjoying to silence.

Its just gone 5am here, we’re in Ottawa as I’m playing in the Bingham cup for the next two weeks so we’ve decided to make a holiday out of it.

Being in a different time zone is great as it means our daughter is awake and ready for the day at 2am. Obviously when we leave she’ll be settled into Ottawa time so we’ll have to do the reverse in the UK. Great fun.

I’ve been on a pushchair run this morning so she didn’t wake my husband or son up, I’m going to let them sleep until 6, so we’re at a park at the minute so she can crawl around on the grass and knacker herself out. Its nice being somewhere that isn’t boiling hot.

Later today we’re going to visit two friends and my ex team mates who moved to Aus just before covid hit, one of them are playing in the cup too, so I’m looking forward to seeing them.

We’re also going to the playera village this evening so we can sort out our kit etc in our teams changing room/changing area. Then after that there is an event on for players who are travelling with children, so we’re hoping to go to that if the two smalls aren’t too tired.

Morning folks.
DD (3) woke up in the night (think she had a nightmare) so I ended up sleeping on her floor 🥴
got up late, just had breakfast on the sofa watching Octonauts
Not an exciting day for me - I have work to finish off and desperately need to deep clean the house.
DH will be working on DD’s potty training and will probably take her to the nearby beach later in the afternoon when the UV isn’t so strong.

Badger1970 · 13/08/2022 10:25

I walked the dogs early in the shade, and the breeze outside was lovely - so much cooler outside than in the awful heat of the house. I've changed the bed, put washing on, and am sat with the curtains drawn in the living room with a coffee.

We're in Gloucestershire and going to Wembley later to see Coldplay - I'm half way between excitement and dread at the heat .......... and then feeling guilty as the band/crew/stadium staff are all working and it's going to be far worse for them! So I'm trying to google somewhere to stop on the way to get food and wondering about the traffic if we venture too far off the M4.

Natsku · 13/08/2022 10:27

I'm just drinking tea and thinking about when to make my lunch, going to refry some of last night's vendace - delicious. Followed by cloudberries in cream.
OH is playing on the switch and DS is watching and giving him advice.
DD is at circus school, new term just started and she's gone to see if she still wants to continue or not. She's done it for 5 years so will be a shame if she stops now so hoping she decides to carry on.

I shall pick some redcurrants in the garden later, and maybe go for a walk in the forest to get some bilberries.

Hoolahulahoop · 13/08/2022 10:30

Hi Lucysmam!!

I had a slight lie in and a coffee in the garden. Now retreated to Netflix for an episode of Downton. We might got out later or have BBQ.

Igo · 13/08/2022 10:36

Currently drinking a lovely cup of Earl Grey tea made by dd, so far today, I’ve taken the dogs for a quick walk down the field before the heat kicks in, put a load of washing on literally can’t wait as I love lines dried fresh bedding

dh is collecting some car bits so out for a couple of hours

i may take the children down to the lake paddle boarding if I can find the pump!

just a nice chilled weekend after a hot and exhausting week at work
