Best sofas? Would you recommend yours?

Currently on the hunt for new sofas (moving and our current one doesn’t fit the space) and want something that is durable and going to last. Our current one (from DFS) is less than 2 years old and already looks tired and battered despite my best efforts at frequent cushion plumping/rotation etc 😬

So quite simply - where did you buy yours? Is it good quality? And would you recommend?

Loaf sofas - expensive but sooo comfy

Nugg · 13/08/2022 06:21

Sofa.com

I have 3, different ranges and sizes from 4 seater to a love seat type two seater. Oldest one is approx 15 years old and all I've done is recover it to match new house.

Everyone comments how comfy they are and they are so hard wearing even when covered in linen.

IKEA, Ektorp. Very well priced and still going well at about 15 years old. Think they were £250 each when we bought them (2x 2 seaters) Got a maybe 2 new sets of covers in that time as we had children.

They're a bit creaky now, but nothing properly wrong with them which makes it harder to buy something different because a) we don't need it just yet, and b) DH likes things to last and good value, and I'm not sure we will be able to beat that!

We bought a leather one 8 years ago from a independent furniture store which is generally quite expensive

We paid £4600 and 8 years later the sofa still looks fantastic. It's never aged or worn in any way.

Ikea - washable covers - looks not too bad.
Considered Loaf - the plumping up was too much work, considered all sorts to be honest but we have a dog and a red wine habit and the teens have friends who come around and get a bit pissed and sleep on it...and I just did not want to be that person who got all precious about the sofa - it has to work hard in a sociable environment.
One tip I can give you for your new sofa - especially if you buy a fancy one, is this stuff - not bleach based and really does wonders (I use it on my clothes too)- not sponsored by them!

I love my M and S sofa, supremely comfortable.

SmellyStinkyPong · 13/08/2022 07:34

I agree with @Indoctro , we have 3, all very expensive but but but....... they've lasted for over 15 years already and still look and feel the same as they did as new.
They've been through the mill with major house renovations too
Go to your nearest independent stockest, I'd never touch a sofa store personally

Conversely ours was from SCS about 10 years ago, it’s comfy and still looks good, not saggy or anything

Me too, mine is 5 years old and still looks great. Quality is fantastic.

Ercol - the best sofa ever. DH thought I was mad to want to spend so much money but it’s fabulous. Even he agrees with me.

Washyourfaceinmysink · 13/08/2022 08:19

We have two sofas from Loaf - love them, they are comfy and still look new after 7 years. However, the ordering process was painful - they forgot to make one of the sofas and only realised weeks later, delivery dates were changed numerous times, was all very chaotic. Pleasant and friendly staff, but completely ineffective - seem to have no clout when things go wrong!

We also have a sofa bed from Willow and Hall. The fabric on the sofa was originally French navy but it has bleached out in the sunlight and is now a patchy light blue/dirty grey/brown colour. The colour started changing almost immediately, in a room with normal levels of sunlight. We bought the best mattress they offered - it’s rubbish, developed lots of ridges and is not comfy any more. Definitely wouldn’t buy again. On a positive note, the sofa is still comfy and the delivery men were brilliant.

Friends have just bought sofas from Tetrad and are very happy with what they bought/the buying process.

@Member278307 I love the idea of something lasting as well as this!!! None of their sofas are jumping out at me though 😓 I think they have some on display at Furniture Village so I’m going to go and have a wee look 👍🏻

The Loaf sofas are so low down, I literally struggle to get up from one! Although they look lovely. I’ve been to M and S and seen some that were really comfy, you can choose the type of cushion you want. I don’t want one with the loose cushions at the back as we (I) would be constantly rearranging them.

Notjustabrunette · 14/08/2022 12:17

ours is from furniture village. Comfy a d still looks good after 3 years. However to my annoyance the seat cushions are only one sided. As in they have the dogs fabric on one side and black fabric on the other so you can’t turn them. Something to look out for when sofa buying.

VioletTopaz · 14/08/2022 12:20

Sofa.com

love it - mine’s not that old. 3 years. But my friend has the same one and here’s is about 6 years old now, and still looks as good as new. So they seem to wear very well.
