Asda restricting items

Probsaoneoff · 12/08/2022 16:48

So I went onto asda grocery. Typed in essentials. Their cheap brand food. Over 1400 items to choose . As soon as I signed in the amount halved. Why are asda doing this? People are struggling to pay for things like food . And they are restraining cheaper food from people whi can't get to the store.

I have excluded 2 pics look up the top of the picture . 1 is before I signed in the other us after

Is it because when you sign it it uses your local store for delivery? So they don't hold all of the stock, but the website shows it al.

ItsSnowJokes · 12/08/2022 16:50

It will be what your local store for delivery stocks. Its not a conspiracy. Not all stores carry all lines.

dehloh · 12/08/2022 16:50

Just looked at your pics, that's exactly what it will be. ASDA website shows the whole range. Stores rarely stock the whole range, so it reduces when you sign in to give an accurate account of what is available.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/08/2022 16:50

fair enough, i am sure there is some policy
in lidl there is a sign reminding people not to over stock on the oil

Jki · 12/08/2022 16:51

Yes, that happens to me all the time with Ocado if I search without being logged in. Nothing sinister about it.

dehloh · 12/08/2022 16:51

Also ASDA essentials isn't new, it's just a rebrand of smart price. Not much to see other then the new yellow package.

What?

A sign in Lidl explicitly limiting the amount of cooking oil a customer can buy?

Cherrysherbet · 12/08/2022 16:52

They will only show you the foods that are available from the store your delivery will be coming from.

Probsaoneoff · 12/08/2022 16:57

Oh I thought there was something dodgy going on.

Still ashame that they don't stock it all though as it would be really helpful to people who are struggling.

Why would you jump to some kind of conspiracy theory? 🤣

Asda are pretty astute. They know the average basket spend by store, the completion, what product is selected. They’ll roll out the range where makes most sense for them.

Sirzy · 12/08/2022 17:18

Depending on the size of the shop they won’t be able to stock every item. Even when they generally have something then they won’t always have it in stock.

Thesearmsofmine · 12/08/2022 17:21

If you have a mid sized Asda then it isn’t going to stock the same number of products that a huge Asda is going to stock. This is the same with any product, I like a particular sauce, I can’t get it in my local supermarket but they do sell it in a bigger store in the next town.

There have been shortages of some oils so its perfectly feasible for a supermarket to limit the number of bottles each customer can buy

Thanks, I didn’t know that.

I just read an article about it.

I agree, Of course, that it is reasonable to limit purchase numbers when there are shortages. I didn’t know there had been a shortage.

Bluub · 12/08/2022 18:24

Because your store doesn't stock them..

Food shortages.
Thankfully I live in the EU so no shortages

MogHog · 12/08/2022 18:53

They have said that they will be rolling out the rest of the range later this year so I'm sure your store will get some more stock in then

There are cooking oil shortages in Portugal, but don't let that stop you making a political point Wink

🤣
I work in food manufacturing for a well known French company. There are shortages all over the EU, and I’m as Remain as they come.
