Inviting neighbours to party, what's the etiquette?

We're having a biggish party in a week and we're planning to invite the neighbours, we don't really know them.and apart from the obvious ones the two next to us and the house opposite to ours, who else shall we invite? Our whole side of the road is like seven houses, and the ones opposite are 4, is that overkill? Really clueless about it

Is it an invite because you genuinely want them to come or more of a token 'sorry about the noise and disruption, you're welcome to come have a drink with us' (but everyone knows they aren't really going to) type thing - no judgment if it's the latter, we've all done it but changes the advice. If you're really wanting them to come then I'd just go with immediate neighbours, if it's a gesture only go whole street...
