Help...New jeans stink!

I bought new black jeans and they absolutely stink, sort of a burnt/hot smell.
I'm assuming it's the dye but it's over powering. I've washed them a couple of time and it's still just as bad, any tips to neutralise them?! I do t want to keep washing them as they'll fade.

Take them back to the shop!

I'm surprised it's not washed out after a cycle or two in the machine.

I'd try chucking some white vinegar (a cup) in the wash with them or soaking them for half an hour in some and then put in the machine again.

I bought some black jeans a few years ago which stunk. I tried everything. Washing, vinegar, bicarb, left them on the line outside for days. Nothing worked so I binned them.

I got them in the sale at 75% off, maybe because they're a bad batch! Would cost more in petrol/time to send them back I'll bin them if I can't get it sorted

I'll give vinegar a try. I just assumed it would wash out but unfortunately not, so far.

I had this soaked in white vinegar with hottish water over night, washed a couple of times and a couple of days on the line in sunshine (inside out thought to reduced fade) and it did go!

I had this with a pair of jeans from All Saints. The smell did wash out eventually. If it’s not worth returning them i’d just keep washing them, they will eventually lose the smell and you can always redye them with Dylon which won’t have that industrial smell.

I remember starting a thread just like this a few years ago! Even when I thought it had gone I'd wear them, they'd warm up, the stink would be back. If I remember rightly it took about 4/5 washes with vinegar and days hanging on the washing line outside for it to eventually go. I do now try to discreetly sniff any dark denim before buying Blush

@BearSoFair yes! The heat today warmed them up and they were knocking me sick! Vinegar wash now on the go and hopefully the sun will burn the stench away

I read somewhere it’s formaldehyde in the dye that causes the smell, it’s horrible. I got rid of the smell on mine by turning them inside out and soaking them in the bath after mixing bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar into really hot water. Soaked them overnight but there was some fading.
you could try tipping bicarbonate of soda into a plastic bag, putting the dry jeans in the bag and leaving them in a cupboard for several days. Then put jeans on a rinse with white vinegar.
