Sardinia advice

Has anyone been to Sardinia? I really fancy going in the 2nd half of September and wondering which resorts to consider. Ideally I'd like a town by the sea with at least a few restaurants and bars where I can swim in the sea from rocks or a beach. Maybe nice hotel for b&b with a pool, nothing too huge or corporate. We'd like to hire bikes while we're there and do some cultural excursions. Any experts out there who can make recommendations? Thanks.

Baia Sardinia is gorgeous. There's a waterpark too, and loads of great fresh seafood restaurants and ice-cream places.

We stayed self-catering so I can't help with a hotel.

Thanks. I'll look it up.

You really need a car there as you would need to drive to all the best beaches unless you are planning to spend $$$$ in one of the v top resorts
The north is the posh part (porto Cervo) but I though thought the beaches in the south were far superior. Chia is like the Caribbean but the nearby town Pula is ok
Food and wine generally is very good there. Costa Rei is supposed to be beautiful too but again would advise on a car which would put me off going back even though I can't remember better beaches anywhere else in europe and Ive been to a lot

We flew into Olbia, hired a car and stayed at an AirBnB in Arbatax. With bikes, there would be some lovely spots to explore up and down that part of the coast.

Yeah, you definitely need to hire a car unless you're just going to spend all your time in the hotel/pool. It's too hot to walk far!

Stayed in Villasimius in 2015. Quite a few restaurants but quite a long way from town to the beach.
