How do I get my refund from Sainsburys??

On 25th July we placed a home delivery order with Sainsburys. I ordered a box of hair dye that should have cost £5 but they substituted it with one box of a different colour which for some unfathomable reason they scanned it for times so they wanted me to pay £20 for one box of Swarzkopf hair dye. They also replaced some ice lollies that were on offer with some that weren’t so they wanted £7 for 4 (2 boxes of 2) ice lollies!

We declined both of these and should have been given a refund of £27 within 5 days but it never arrived.

After a week, I called customer service who offered me a voucher for an online shop but I don’t want to shop online with them again as there were also lots of missing items and short dated items. The advisor rang the store and said I’d get a refund within 5 days again.

This also didn’t arrive, so I rang again this Tuesday and eventually spoke to a lady who was lovely but said she couldn’t speak to me because it’s my husband’s account (even though I’d already spoken to someone). DH rang and was assured the money would be refunded the next day and DH asked her to make a note of this.

We still haven’t received anything almost 3 weeks later! DH asked to speak to a manager and they put the phone down on him. We need that money! It’s almost half a weekly shop for us and I would never spend £20 on one cheap box of hair dye!

How on earth do we get our money back when no one wants to help??

I don't understand as if it's substituted shouldn't they honour the original price?

Bretonbear · 11/08/2022 13:02

Contact them via Facebook and Twitter

They charged me £20 and £7 but I believe now that if I’d accepted them, they’d send me a voucher for the difference to use in my next online shop but I didn’t know that at the time.

I would contact them on social media OP. I find Sainsburys a pain to shop with online, other supermarkets are so much better at it.

icelollycraving · 11/08/2022 13:07

Social media for a quick response.

LadyCatStark · 11/08/2022 13:10

Thanks, I’ve tried Facebook. I’m not on Twitter but DH is. I’m surprised, I haven’t done an online shop in years and they were great then but this is ridiculous!

We shop with them. If you accept the substitute you get a voucher for the difference. If you reject it you get a refund.

They should’ve scanned the refund in for you at the time OP, sorry they’re being so crap.

This happens to me almost every week. I'm sick of ringing them. They basically never issue refunds, I always get it back as a coupon for next shop and because I have a delivery pass with them I have no choice but to accept

Babdoc · 11/08/2022 13:18

I think this just means your local Sainsbugs is crap, OP. Mine (Perthshire) is excellent, the drivers key in the refund requests while you unpack the crate, you get them returned promptly to your credit card, or if they’ve issued a voucher for a more expensive substitution, it’s in your Sainsbugs account ready for your next week’s shop.
Having said that, it’s rare that I get more than one substitution, and often there are none - the stock control seems very well organised.

Sainsbury's don't do this - one of the reasons we don't shop there!

Use Sainsburys every week, one just arrived.Never had a problem always refund within a day or 2 .I live n Cornwall, maybe we are lucky.

mondaytosunday · 11/08/2022 13:27

I've never had a problem with them - the delivery person usually makes the and dent t at the door snd I get the refund within a day or two. Definitely something has gone wrong somewhere!
Have you emailed? Write to head office too.

Write to the CEO, Google for details. Did this recently and got a response fairly quickly.

LadyCatStark · 11/08/2022 13:46

I just popped on to DH’s account after reading @Babdoc ’s response as I wondered if it had been credited to our account by accident but it isn’t. I found a button where I could make a complaint but I think it was just for general feedback. I will happily write to the CEO though.

Honestly twitter is your friend. I get everything resolved via their Twitter page.

I waited three weeks for a refund from sainsburys for some clothes, messaged them on Facebook chat and they processed it then and there. Worth a go!

LadyCatStark · 12/08/2022 17:06

DH spoke to them again yesterday and they said the refund had been processed and it was our bank’s fault for not having paid it out yet. This would be unusual as we bank with Monzo and they’re usually very fast. On the same call, they said someone would call back and take our bank details to process the refund 🙈. No one has called back and even when they do they’ve said it’ll take the magic 5-7 days to process. They’re now up to giving us £40 “compensation” but still haven’t given us what we actually want which is the damned refund!!

Hi OP

I had an issue with a Sainsburys delivery and asked for the complaint to be referred to their executive office (which it was). Maybe ask for the same?

We had our shopping delivered covered in bleach from a squashed bottle which created a giant mess in our kitchen. The driver left while we were mid way through handing back bleach soaked items and I had to struggle for a refund. In the end I got a Sainsburys gift card from them but I'll never use their delivery service again.
