Birthday BBQ etiquette - gift

We've been invited to a bbq in a few weeks to celebrate my friend's daughter's 1st birthday, she's a relatively new 'mum friend' I met at a baby class as we have daughters the same age. The bbq is being held at her PIL's as it's also her FIL's birthday.

We have a gift for her daughter, but should we take something else? Food for the bbq? A bottle of something? I'm leaning towards yes,
DH thinks the gift is enough.

I'd ask if she wants you to bring anything/or what shall I bring? Some people at BBQs expect you to turn up with what you are planning to eat. We don't as we will cater for everyone but got caught out at friends where everyone else turned up with a pack of sausages or burgers. And we've had people turn up at ours with kebabs etc to cook.

And definitely take a bottle or 2 with you....

Can you text her and ask if there’s anything she’d like you to bring? If she says nothing then I’d take the gift, plus some beer/wine/Prosecco depending on how much you drink!

soft drinks also

Thanks all, she's said 'nothing' so think I'll take a bottle of something.
