Root Canal - help!

Had a RC done on one of my top back teeth (maybe 3 in from the back?) just before Covid lockdown. I had a cracked tooth. Not sure how. I do grind my teeth sometimes.

It has been fine since but lately it is nagging me. I would not exactly call it pain but just I can FEEL it, almost like aching but I wouldn't go that far. I went to dentist and they say it looks ok, have a teeth clean with hygienist and then see. Since then I can feel it more and more although I am desperately trying to fight it and pretend it is fine :/

Anyone have experiences and what happened - did you lose the tooth? What are my options - will I have to wear a false tooth there :( I am only 38. Help.

Yes, I lost the tooth.
Mine is 2 from the back and I don't wear a false one. You can't see it when I smile.

@ofwarren do you just have a gap there? sorry to be thick!

I lost two cracked teeth. Ended up with a root canal (and I hate the dentist, and spent the whole time shaking). I have a huge gap (ended up taking out a wisdom tooth too) but its far enough back not to see. I was TERRRIFIED that the aftermath of the root canal would be miserable and I would wanna die from the pain. I had no pain, NONE! Didnt take anything other than advil. I did freak out I was gonna get dry socket so I ate nothing but baby food for a week (and lost 10 pounds)

It could be infected which would probably mean a cap or extraction. I had a cap I hate it but at least it's better than a gap.

@autienotnaughty what is a cap? x

I’ve had root canal on three teeth, about 15-20 years ago. One is just filled. One at the front I have a veneer on as the dead tooth went grey and one three from the back I have a crown on. It is gold (can’t remember why I went for that) but you can’t really see it that far back, so if I lost it I’d probably just go with a gap.

I can feel a sort of pressure on the veneered one when I have a heavy cold or sinus issues but I just weather it as my dentist is happy with it, it looks fine in xrays etc. But that is obviously a bit different to your permanent niggle so I hope you get an answer or at least some reassurance nothing serious is going on.

@1frenchfoodie that is so interesting thank you. I do feel like pressure is a good explanation and I have been a bit sinusy. Maybe I just need to ride it out. As the answer for them is to take it off and I don't want that to happen unless I KNOW something bad is happening.

It's also called a crown. It's a metal or porcelain piece that fits over the cracked tooth to protect it . Mines an ugly metal one but no pain any more.
