This woman keeps calling me babe

I am also a woman and we are around the same age. She knows my name but still always calls me babe.

Does anyone have any idea what this could mean?

OP posts:

Uhm. She watches a lot of television?

TheresSomethingYouNeedToKnow · 10/08/2022 21:33

It means she's a commoner "alright babes" haha

OvaryActions · 10/08/2022 21:34

My sister calls me babe/baby. She was so used to saying it to her husband that it used to slip out all the time so now she just goes with it 😅

Maybe this woman is just used to using the word and doesn't notice.

Popsicle33 · 10/08/2022 21:34

She's a chav. I hate it!

mrwalkensir · 10/08/2022 21:35

it's just a genial thing - enjoy

Antarcticant · 10/08/2022 21:42

I worked with someone who did this - it was just the way she talked. She was young, fashionable, outgoing - very pleasant person although we had nothing in common. I don't like being called 'babe' by anyone, even or perhaps especially by my husband, but it's not a hill to die on if an otherwise unobjectionable colleague does it.

husbandcallsmepickle · 10/08/2022 21:46

It's a generic nickname. I know someone who calls EVERYONE "chicken"

Gaveitall · 10/08/2022 21:49

I hate “hun” as in honey.
My mate has a friend on FB who uses it all the time.
Cringe.

bellac11 · 10/08/2022 21:49

Love, petal, sweetheart, babe, darlin' - you've never heard people refer to each other like this?

QueSyrahSyrah · 10/08/2022 21:52

Couldn't get worked up about it. I've got a friend who calls everyone babe, another who uses honey, and I'm Northern so call anyone and everyone love.

ChubbyCaterpillar · 10/08/2022 21:56

She's being friendly

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 10/08/2022 22:00

There’s a woman at work who calls me ‘chick’. I find it excruciatingly annoying

AnnieSnap · 10/08/2022 22:04

I hate it and I especially hate hun 🤬I agree with @NiqueNique They pick it up from trash TV and think it’s cool 🙄 I don’t like love, me-duck, petal etc either, but at least these terms have their routes in affectionate working class ways of addressing people. I like to me called by my name or madam/ma’am.

RooniIWazlib · 10/08/2022 22:08

She thinks you're a pig in the city.

BigFatLiar · 10/08/2022 22:09

Perhaps your her type

emerald7 · 10/08/2022 22:09

I don't think it mean anything, some people just refer to everyone as babes. Or maybe she is bad with names

maddy68 · 10/08/2022 22:11

Are you serious? I'm Welsh. Everyone calls each other babe. It's a regional thing I think. Why would you take offence ?

Scabetty · 10/08/2022 22:17

A term of affection to show she likes you as a person. I would be offended if she calls you cunt though as that means she dislikes you 😁

Huntswomanonthemove · 10/08/2022 22:25

I like being called babe. My best friend calls me babe. ❤️

NC12345665 · 10/08/2022 22:26

She obviously fancies you, op. 🙄
Have you never encountered a regional accent before?

Wbeezer · 10/08/2022 22:27

Could be worse in Glasgow it would be Hen.

BlackbirdsSinging · 10/08/2022 22:28

Perhaps she doesn’t have a good memory for names?

Hbh17 · 10/08/2022 22:28

Inappropriate terms of endearment are common and cringy, but she obviously doesn't know that!

UrsulaPandress · 10/08/2022 22:31

My DD and I call each other babes.

Or pumpkin.

Or sweet cheeks.
