What temperature setting do you have your chest freezer on?

I’ve just realised ours is on 5 which is the highest setting and which is presumably using more energy. I’ve turned it down to the middle setting. Can I keep it on this permanently? Instruction booklet is long gone.

im hoping this is one of my mystery electricity guzzlers identified…

I keep mine at minus 19C. So whatever setting keeps it at that temperature.

You need to get a freezer thermometer to check that it is safe to change the setting - the important thing is the internal temp, not the setting and not the cost. If it costs too much then you need a more energy efficient one or get rid of it entirely.

I don’t have a chest but I have an industrial which is like a chest but opens front. It’s set to -18 and kept it up during the heat so I was pretty impressed.

Sounds like I need a thermometer. Mine simply has a dial 1-5

It’s only about three years old so should still be fairly efficient

I keep mine on a low setting and only turn it up if freezing stuff, though I do have to remember to turn it back down afterwards, I keep a small thermometer in there.

there will probably be a manual online
