Opening pitta breads

Is there a "right way"?

Ive established after extensive research and blind testing that Morrisons whole meal are the dogs bollocks in pitta, but I'm none the wiser about the best way to open them. Obv slice down the long side ... but which side? How do you which is the "top"?

10 seconds in the microwave, first. Then cut along bottom lengthways.

Damnloginpopup · 10/08/2022 20:47

Run very briefly under the tap then shakr then into the toaster until they puff. Slice down the long side while holding in a kitchen towel

Oh, I re-read. It was a joke. Sorry @Mangogogogo . I should read .ore carefully!!

Hahaha yeah sorry I overexaggerated cos gluten free food costs a fortune 🙈🙈

QueenOfWeeds · 10/08/2022 21:03

OP, I can’t believe you didn’t include a diagram!!

I toast first through preference, and would then instinctively slice along the long edge, but that’s because I’m lazy and can’t be bothered stuffing fillings into two pieces. I agree widthways and then eating from the open end to the point is best, though.

MarshaMelrose · 10/08/2022 21:03

Yeah. I got that on the second reading. 🤦 I'm very sloooooow this evening. I blame the heat and these exam papers I'm marking. They're atrophying my brain! 🤯

Oblomov22 · 10/08/2022 21:04

I've never been able to cut them well yet!

Perfectlystill · 10/08/2022 21:05

KnittingSister · 10/08/2022 18:59

No, I would say slice in half, across the width, not the length, so you have 2 halves. This way you can eat from the open end to the pointy bit. If you slice the length, that makes it more difficult to eat 😁

Yep this is the best way

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2022 21:06

Mine end up a pitiful mess !
I get Dh to do it for me ..

I'm afraid the only answer is to fly to Cyprus & eat their yummy soft pitta breads which don't seem to be in any way related to the sad supermarket offering we get here.

Nugg · 10/08/2022 21:10

I toast or grill to open them

LadyHelenaJustina · 10/08/2022 21:12

If you try Crosta and Mollica piadina flatbreads, puffed up on each side in a hot pan, you'll never go back to pittas.

QueenOfWeeds · 10/08/2022 21:12

@the80sweregreat a pitta-ful mess, surely?

lisavanderpumpscloset · 10/08/2022 21:15

Cut across the middle, 2 pitta pockets. Done

JelloFishy · 10/08/2022 21:20

@Mangogogogo I always snip a stripe off and they seem to separate okay..

Fill them up and then pick them up to fucking split and all the filling fall out..

😯

Yes!! Lol

Look, there is definitely a top and a bottom - sometimes you get lucky and you cut (LENGTHWAYS FFS) the top at the top, so you get a slightly thicker "base" and thinner top. Do it wrong and you end up with a base that is uneven- some pitta cartilage almost - and a top that breaks and which you have to flip over the contents piece by annoying piece.

So how do you know which is the top?

@WinterMusings lavash bread?

Campolini · 10/08/2022 21:44

Toast or grill, slice and use a spoon to swipe down the slice, opens perfect everytime . My little hack 🤣

WinterMusings · 10/08/2022 21:55

liveforsummer · 10/08/2022 20:37

@WinterMusings it's kind of like a crisis between a pitta and a naan? I get similar in a local Turkish shop

@liveforsummer thanks for your reply! I'll have a look for a local Turkish shop & try that!! I suspect ''local' will be 40/50 miles from here, we're not in what you'd call a diverse area🙇🏻‍♀️🙄

@georgarina i did look at that , but I don't think so, but I'm going to see if I can order some, even if it's not, I'm sure it'll be nice!!

(I'm not supposed to eat bread which is why I haven't ordered it before, but, needs must!!🤣🤣)

Thestoppedfan · 10/08/2022 22:02

I only buy the Warburtons pre sliced pittas now. I have given up with anything else as I end up ruining them all and burning my hands.

Allmarbleslost · 10/08/2022 22:05

Have a go at making your own. It's really easy and they're not flat as pancakes!

We've started doing this, DD started it and it works much better. DH insists on having his while still.
Toasting until they puff is essential for good separation, but some don't seem to puff.
