Air Canada first world problem (upgrades!)

This is silly but annoying. I’m travelling for work, my employer pays economy fares, so I’m booked in economy. Air Canada has a useful thing where you can bid online for an upgrade- so I can spend my own money for a more comfortable trip. I had an email on the way out saying they tried to take the money but the card has been declined. Rang credit card co- all fine, problem is with Air Canada. Rang Air Canada customer service- nothing they can do, suggest I cancel the bid for the return journey and bid with a different card, so I did that. Just had the same email for the return leg. I may be able to buy an upgrade at checkin but won’t know till it opens. I’m annoyed as I’m actually trying to give them some money, I think the problem is their site and I don’t know how to resolve it. Could Tweet them but I don’t suppose tweets get passed on to the technical people. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Buy an air Canada gift card, transfer the upgrade fees and pay using that.

The Air Canada website is notoriously shite, unfortunately.

Yep, I’d seen that the website is notorious. The frustrating thing is that I did this in 2019 and it worked beautifully!

I don’t want to risk the gift card, as if they don’t accept the bid I lose the money anyway.

Happy ending- it let me pay for an upgrade at checkin. Thanks for the help!
