child maintenance - is this fair?

I just wondered what the general view is on it. I get 600 a month which is a small amount of ex’s salary. But in line with what is required by CM. I generally thought it was ok - he never ever sees dc and has no other kids, but my family and some friends are shocked by it and say it costs so much more to raise a child etc. However I’m not sure that’s true, I don’t spend 600 on dc at the moment, they’re on 1. Obviously this will pay for childcare but then even if together I would have contributed to day to day cost anyway.

i know it can’t be changed anyway as that’s just the rate. But I am being naive to think it’s not too bad?

No, if it’s been worked out by CMS then that’s what he should be paying.
If he’s earning excessive sums, like more than 3k per week, then you can apply for more-but I think you have to prove that it’s needed.
More importantly, tell your family to keep their noses out of your finances.

Maybe its just me, but I was raised not to discuss money

£600 a month for one child is very generous my friend has 3 children she gets about that for all 3!

It's all down to what they earn but they have to have enough to live on themselves too

It's a very large amount compared to many. I get 400 for 2 children and that's considered a lot by others I know.
