I have found my son googling how to get round parental controls. He is now on an absolute device ban for the rest of the summer. When he initially goes back to school we will allow homework completion online under direct supervision, but we can’t keep that up indefinitely and the ultimate goal is to get him using the internet safely.
We have explained why the rules are in place but right now he is more interested in seeing what he can get away with, so can’t be trusted. It does not help that his closest friend’s parents are very lax. (Smart phone for a 9 year old with no restrictions as far as I can see.) To be honest I’m waiting for the next toe out of line to ban playing out with this friend, though they are mostly playing sport as far as I can see.
what would you do to improve his respect for us so we can keep him safe as he gets older?
