Can anyone recommend long stay parking for a day in Bristol and the best area to go for a bit of shopping and lunch?

Cabot circus for lunch and shopping but don't park there!!!

Maybe use the park and ride on the portway

The Galleries Shopping Centre car park is more reasonable than Cabot. Very central and easy for the whole of the shopping/centre.

Thanks - is Castle Park worth wandering around?

Yes it is, it is opposite castle park. The park itself is okay, an eclectic mix of people! The Galleries, Castle park and Cabot circus are all in a triangle really - 10 ish slow minutes walk to each.

We had lovely tapas at a place called the olive shed.

Depends where in Bristol you need to be.
There's the Mall at Cribbs Causeway and the parking is free. There's also a bus terminus there too.
If you're looking for independent shops then Gloucester Road is miles long and lined with shops.
Cabot Circus, Broadmead and The Galleries all have branches of shops you will find in any town (but no M&S. It closed recently after 60 odd years).
Castle Park is a bit of a strange one. It was created after the 2nd World War and has the ruined church in the middle. That's all really. During the day its office workers on their lunch break and junkies at night.

Gloucester Road sounds good!

we aren’t going for anything in particular - I’m on the M4 and so is Bristol so I thought we’d give it a go!

I'd avoid Cabot - pretty soulless and just chain restaurants. Castle Park is full of people taking drugs so I'd probably swerve that too.

Maybe a harbour side walk - start at MShed and do an anti-clockwise loop through millennium square, up past the Grain Barge, up to the Pump House, back the other side through Underfall Yard, past the Cottage Inn, past the SS Great Britain and then back to MShed. The Olive Shed (by MShed) has lovely tapas or else there's some amazing places to eat in Wapping Wharf (Gambas is fabulous!)

Parking wise there's a car park at Wapping Wharf or nearby at Prince Street.

Otherwise a stroll and food in Clifton Village and a walk over the Suspension Bridge would be nice.

@DappledOliveGroves That sounds ideal.

thanks all for your help - going there today so I’ll let you know where we ended up going!

One more question - where should I park for Gloucester Road?
