Tell me about your smartwatch

I think I'd like a smart-ish looking smartwatch - I like the look of the Fossil bracelet-strap and Skagen ones (not Apple - I have a Google Pixel phone).

Can anyone recommend theirs or are they a passing/irritating fad that I should steer clear of?!

I've worn a Fitbit for about 5 years now and it has honestly changed my life. Ensuring I get a minimum of 10000 steps a day has been a game changer in terms of health and stamina. I also like the sleep and resting heart rate tracking. The straps they come with are quite ugly though so I buy inexpensive alternatives on eBay /Amazon/Etsy .

Twice in the 5 years I've bought an Apple Watch as my DD loves hers so much and both times I've returned it after a couple of weeks. They are too chunky for my wrist and they don't seem to offer anything my `iphone doesn't already do for me.

I'd be interested to hear from people who have used a Fossil watch as they are very attractive.

That's interesting, @FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall , thank you! So it's definitely made you more active?

I have a Garmin luxe and I love it. It tracks my steps, my sleep (if I wear it at night) and I can use it when running. I like that it will notify me when I have a message or a call on my phone as I’m usually running after a toddler so I don’t usually have my phone next to me. I also like that it looks like a normal watch.

Thanks @Buddha15 - can you respond to messages on it? Not sure whether I love that potential feature or hate it...

What are you wanting it for?

Currently I have a galaxy watch 4, but I've also gone through a couple of fitbits over the years.

The ones I've had, to a greater or lesser extent track steps and heart rate, estimate calorie burn, stairs and active minutes. Have varying exercise functions - where they track time, miles, calories burn etc, depending on the exercise, including being waterproof for tracking a swim session, my galaxy tracks lengths in the pool, and works out metres swam.

They also track sleep, and my galaxy can (dubiously) measure stress, body composition.

That's the main 'use' of them.

In terms of motivation - they can help you move more in prompting when you've been sat for a while, or just reflecting your current steps and that being motivation to do more, and improve. But you have to want to improve - and you use the features to remind/prompt/track progress.

Other features include phone messages and notifications coming through and being able to reply, and even answer calls. Reminders, timers and media control on your wrist, and payment.

Their corresponding apps are also good.

I'm happy with my galaxy - but there's some things my fitbit did better - battery being the main - I charge everyday whereas my fitbits lasted 5/6 days. But the galaxy has much more power hungry features - I can answer a call for instance instead of just knowing my phone is ringing, Bluetooth my headphones straight to my watch and have a Spotify playlist downloaded on it, so could leave the house without my phone.

You can’t reply to messages but you can read them. You can also turn off these features or not link your phone if you would rather not get notified.
