Energy bills forecast to reach £4266 in January

Just had the newsflash come through.
"Pressure is mounting on the government to announce a fresh support package for struggling households as energy bills are now forecast to top £4,200 from January."

Tell me, what household is not going to struggle with bills now almost 4 times what they were 12 months before? It will make a difference to most I think, apart from the very wealthy.

Our household is just a bit above the average bill it seems; we were paying £110 before all this kicked off and it looks like come the new year it will be over £400/month.

That is a HUGE amount extra for many families and completely unpayable for some. I can afford it - just - but it means that we'll be spending about 10% of our income on energy (using the money I used to tuck away each month for a rainy day).

The new normal is incredibly depressing.

That’s pretty much double the current price cap.

our monthly payment is £469 now as we have 2 children with complex needs and they require a warm house and a whole host of medical equipment to keep them alive!
We expect to be paying around 8 to 9 thousand ayear by january if the planned increases are as predicted. It is absolute madness !

ilovesooty · 09/08/2022 11:09

Most people will struggle to pay that amount.

This is very worrying. I am particularly worried that my business will fold. I need a warm environment and the winter bills are already an issue. I usually get a break in the summer when i don't need heating but even just the lights and sundries have been triple what I'd normally be at this tims of year. I would be devastated if after my small business managing to survive lockdowns now had to close due to the energy costs.

Does anyone know if there is any news of support for small businesses?

prampushingdownthehighst · 09/08/2022 12:22

Worryingly, there is no price cap for businesses
It's a massive concern

Breathmiller · 09/08/2022 12:29

It is indeed.

mjf981 · 09/08/2022 12:29

Yes how will businesses afford to absorb this? It will decimate small businesses who often have a tight profit margins. The economic outlook is scary.
