Do you mean it's showing at your roots? Hair is continually growing so you'll need to do your roots fairly regularly.

My hair grows about 1" every 4 weeks so I'd have 1" of grey hair growth every 4 weeks.

I'm not dying my hair yet to hide greys, but when I do I'll likely get my roots done at least every 4 weeks (possibly more regularly).

You could go lighter or add highlights to your hair to hide the greys a bit. That will still need a level of maintenance though.

Roots every two weeks .. wander round with a shower cap on and it is done. Life savers are putting conditioner or Vaseline on top of forehead and ears so I don't dye everything and also on back of neck . My hair is dark so if that gets on anything other than the hair it's meant to dye it shows very clearly

Allmarbleslost · 09/08/2022 11:47

My roots need doing every 3-4 weeks. I'm lazy though so tend to stretch it out for longer!

It depends how many greys you’ve got, how noticeable they are against your non-grey hair, and how much they bother you. I started off doing mine every 5 or 6 weeks, then over the years that became every 4 or 5. I’d try to stretch it out as long as possible. But now it’s every three weeks roughly. My greys are on top and show badly in my parting and my natural hair is dark.

figmaofmyimagination · 09/08/2022 12:16

I do a cm at my parting and temples every 2-3 weeks. I wish I could stretch it further, but try to keep the amount of hair to a minimum each time.

purplecorkheart · 09/08/2022 12:19

Five to six weeks. Tend to have greys at temple rather than at my parting thankfully.

OneForTheRoadThen · 09/08/2022 12:20

Mine needs doing every 3-4 weeks. It's such a bind

Dillydollydingdong · 09/08/2022 12:24

Every couple of months but my hair grows through a dark grey, so it really doesn't show much.

StanleyBostitch · 09/08/2022 12:51

Every 4 weeks

I would use a semi permanent hair colour. This will last about 24 washes. I use Clairol Nice and Easy semi permanent and apply it with the same dye brush used by a hair dresser. You probably get one of them in a pound shop, b and m or home bargains.
I apply it in sections and start at the hairline at the top of my head and around my ears as I found I would have more grey their.
I leave it in for 15/20 mins, wash it out and use the conditioner that comes with it.
I found that this blends well with my own hair colour and I don't have a roots problem for about 5 weeks.
I think a semi permanent is better for your hair until you have a lot of grey and need a permanent colour then because it's stronger. I know as well that Clairol nice and easy offer a permanent colour as well and you can find out online what shade is same as semi permanent one that you been using up to then.

I have my roots done every 3 weeks, on that last week the silvers are starting to show.

whereistheoneandidontmeanneo · 09/08/2022 13:35

My hair is natural black, I’m having to do the roots about 3/4 weeks. I’m 38 and virtually white. Drives me mad kept doing it, I can’t stand the roots. Got a hair colour today actually

FunnysInLaJardin · 09/08/2022 13:52

I have very dark hair with probably around 25% of grey and I do mine 4 times a year.

I use henna which colours the grey red and because it fades over time I don't get a harsh line as my hair grows.

I also pluck any out of my parting as my hair grows but can usually stretch to 3 months before it really needs doing.

The reason I changed to henna was because I really couldn't be arsed dying it every 3-4 weeks.

Aprilx · 09/08/2022 14:03

I go to the hairdressers about every six to eight weeks. I used to go just for highlights but as the grey hairs started to appear I changed to colours and highlights and time between appointments reduced to the current amount.

Anniissa · 09/08/2022 14:12

Mine need doing every 3-4 weeks but with the help of the spray root colour I can stretch it to 6 weeks or so. Those sprays are a godsend!
