Notateacheranymore · 09/08/2022 05:52

I knit, but not so much while the weather has been so warm. Also love Lego.

I still keep trying to crochet but am still rubbish despite many attempts. 🤬😤😡

Sally99 · 09/08/2022 05:56

Place marking as I'm looking for a new hobby to take up that will get me meeting people. I read and garden but neither are sociable so need a change . I'm wondering about the RSPB or similar

Divebar2021 · 09/08/2022 06:00

Mine are not that sociable either… I go to see art exhibitions and dance performances. I “pen pal” and sometimes do “post crossing”. I go to the gym because I have to not because I want to. I had a phase of playing netball. I’ve done different classes over the years: sewing and photography mainly which ran over some weeks and one off art classes.

Divebar2021 · 09/08/2022 06:01

Oh I go to a book club - that’s probably the most sociable one I do.

BloodyIceCreamVanAgain · 09/08/2022 06:04

I play bass guitar in two bands.
Yoga.

No time for anything else!

DaftyLass · 09/08/2022 06:16

Beachcombing
Swimming (ocean, lake or pool)
Canoeing
Hiking
Plant rescue
Thrifting/flipping garage sale finds
Camping
Exploring back roads/ghost towns
Reading
Baking

Honestly, I barely have time for my job!

Notateacheranymore · 09/08/2022 06:21

I also love baking, but there’s only DH and I at home, so a lot of it goes to work. Unfortunately, the site is nut free (on pain of disciplinary), so that hampers creativity quite a bit!!!

EquallyDivided · 09/08/2022 06:26

I have an allotment, that is pretty sociable for about half the year but quiet through winter. Go to various exercise classes/gym. Book club.

Sally99 · 09/08/2022 06:26

@DaftyLass what's plant rescue?

GetThatHelmetOn · 09/08/2022 06:27

Photography, all in my phone and Instagram, do the sorting and editing in bed. I’m also part of a photography club.

Saturdays out at the coast or countryside, there is always someone wanting to come with me and share the cost of the petrol.

Chariteeing… Some of my friends from art school are as much into finding design classics or new ideas in charity shops as me. We organise a chariteeing tour from time to time , visiting charity shops in the most affluent towns around us.

DaftyLass · 09/08/2022 06:31

I find plants on the curb/from people who give me their dying plants/discount end of season ones from the garden centre , and then try and revive them.
Once they are healthy and strong, then I propagate them, and give they extras away

AuntieN · 09/08/2022 06:33

Another keen photographer here. I’ve done it for nearly 30years and adore it. It allows me to be creative and has taught me to observe the world which means every day I see something beautiful, funny, or interesting in unexpected places. You don’t need fancy kit, start with your phone. I’m not a member of a club at the moment, but they are usually very welcoming and will give free photography lessons to new comers. I take photos everyday. I really miss it when I cant take photographs.

cartbeforehorse · 09/08/2022 06:42

Golf, swimming, yoga, Nordic walking- all really sociable and I’ve made some great friends.

At home embroidery and weaving on a loom.

whiteroseredrose · 09/08/2022 06:43

I like researching my family history. It's like a puzzle, piecing together bits of information. I also like planning holidays ( which we sometimes go on). Neither very sociable.

findingsomeone · 09/08/2022 06:45

I have dogs and they take up lots of time, go gundog training
Play piano
Do cross stitch
Started an online calligraphy course

That's probably it but I have a 2YO and pretty much scroll my phone for two hours in the evening and then go to bed as I work full time!

Adversity · 09/08/2022 08:25

@Sally99 I have started volunteering in a community garden a couple of times a week. I also joined two walking groups on meet up.

I have had the following hobbies in my life, listed first are the longest
Cycling, reading, hiking, board games and gaming almost all my life
Climbing trees, alas I climbed my last aged 42.
Singing in four choirs, span around a decade in total but on and off
Swimming in the sea unfortunately live in a landlocked county now
Salsa, belly dancing. aerobics, goju ryu karate, yoga, running, hockey, cricket,
Knitting, Embroidery, Flower arranging at church and for a few weddings, writing group, family history.

Have also done a lot of voluntary work for food projects and fundraising at committee level. When I was seriously ill, hence my early retirement my sister said if you had died and I almost did you have at least already fitted in a lifetime, I was late forties.

I know there are family, work and financial constraints but try as much as you can. There have been some non starters for me windsurfing, yachting, Zumba, ballroom dancing, ballet, ice skating and caving spring to mind but I tried them at least.

Ragwort · 09/08/2022 08:28

Mostly volunteering, sounds a bit 'do-gooder' but I genuinely enjoy it and make a lot of friends though various volunteering projects.

MajorCarolDanvers · 09/08/2022 08:29

Volunteer with Scouts
Football season ticket holder
I cook
I go to the gym

toooldtocarewhoknows · 09/08/2022 08:30

I make bridal dresses for dolls and sell them to recoup my costs. My craft room is slowly spilling into the rest of the house. I can't resist buying fabric, lace and dolls!

Do you have hobbies ? And if you do
OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 09/08/2022 08:35

Too many am stretched way too thin but looking for ideas for my lonely isolated chronically ill 19 yr old DD.

I am doing an MSc funded by my employer, have a dog, do a different exercise class each night and go to sewing/crochet cocktail and craft nights hoping to get into dress making and quilting this winter. I run the PTA second hand uniform service and am learning bass.
I dip in and out of online dating which I consider a hobby too.

The dog walking is the most sociable.

Sally99 · 09/08/2022 08:43

@Adversity Really inspiring, thank you
