Is it silly to go out for tapas (here in the U.K.) just before going on holiday to Spain (or other similar cuisine based dilemmas)?

Its my birthday next week and we have a rare child free night on Friday. Looking at restaurant menus and tempted by a lovely tapas one… but we go on holiday to Spain next Monday! Is it silly to go out for U.K. tapas just before going to Spain? Similarly would you go to Bella Italia or Pizza Express for a meal just before getting off to Rome? Pop for a bite to eat at your local Indian restaurant before a trip to Delhi? Wagamamas before holiday to Japan? Should I be choosing a totally different cuisine, Chinese food maybe or Greek? 😁

Would you go for tacos before a holiday to Mexico? Maybe I should stick with pie and mash 😆

Grin this is just the sort of thing I would massively over think! Go where ever you like, it really doesn't matter!

I would go tapas to get me in the mood!

I am a total overthinker!

Its restaurant week in the city (Newcastle if anyone else is nearby - NE1 Restaurant Week, check it out!) and there are lots of good offers but I think this tapas one is the best at £10 for 3 tapas!

I agree with Rayn it could be a lovely pre holiday vibe and get you in the mood. I'd be exactly the same though!

If you're taking the kids to Spain you might not really get to enjoy the tapas experience! I'm talking as a toddler Mum though... yours might be older. Either way, I'd go before too!

Good point! Yes, we are taking the kids so will probably be chips, pizza and nuggets on Spain and a more authentic tapas experience back in Newcastle!

Wow...just go where you fancy for dinner?

redandwhite1 · 07/08/2022 22:50

My 7 yo loves tapas! You might be surprised, he has meatballs, chorizo, tortilla (omelette) , chicken skewers, nothing majorly adventurous but we still get to enjoy having it when we go abroad 😊

Why? Just give your children tapas. What do you think Spanish kids eat ?

I think rather than the type of food, the PP meant it wouldn’t be as relaxed and enjoyable an experience with toddlers in tow as it will be having a child-free night 😁 and what I said about nuggets and chips was (mostly) a joke.

It will be different, so UK tapas and Spanish tapas may be two entirely different meals, but both lovely so there's no problem with that

Go for tapas! Yum! Who cares, it's what you want to have for your birthday, is kid friendly and delicious! Abs if it gets you in the holiday spirit, all the better Smile
