Help me find some lovely artists please!

I'm after some artwork for some empty spots on my walls. Prints, or original artwork. I have no idea what I want really but my birthday is next month so I might ask for a contribution towards something.

I have just discovered the gloriousness of Eric Ravilious (see photos) and am very tempted to get something of his. I also like Rothko. But other than that, I just don't know. Too many options.

So...can you tell me about artists you like? What artwork do you have on your walls? Any great artists local to you I'd never come across without a recommendation?

Any and all suggestions welcome!

I only have my own artwork or my son's so can't help you there. I don't have enough room for other people's artwork. However I do love Georgia O'Keefe but I suspect she won't to be your taste. The artwork you've shown is a bit drab for me and I don't like Rothko at at.

However you may like Ashley Jackson. Being from Yorkshire I love his work. Also if I were to have some art of someone else on my wall a local artist, Robert Cox (brother of Sara) one of his poppy paintings or Kate Lycett.

It's a difficult one, one woman's meat is another woman's poison. Take a look at Australian artist Ken Done.

Alternatively, buy pictures that are meaningful to you, places you like etc.

How about photography? Lots of wonderful photographers out there that sell prints

Angela Harding prints are lovely. And Richard Bawden ( son of Edward Bawden).

I'd have a browse on Etsy or somewhere like www.cambridgegallery.co.uk/ (or any similar independent gallery) and see what you're drawn to.

In general I think its easier to look for art when you have a spot in the house ( and therefore colourscheme, size etc in mind)

We were on holiday in the Cairngorms last year and went to a gallery with amazing art by a local people - they have several small galleries in the area. Well worth looking at, not cheap for the originals but they do prints. Www.1896gallery.com

Op they stunning. I love Hannah Cole and Sam Toft too hers are quirky.

Bought this last week . Vicki Davidson . A Yorkshire artist . Her paintings are beautiful . Really heart warming .
