How long do I leave driving after drinking?

I went for a work night out last night, was home for 12, but I was pretty Merry 🙈

I'm just wondering when is safe to drive today?

I'm not a big drinker tbh so I have absolutely no idea!

I don't at all me. Not worth it.

I usually give it 24 hours from when I stopped drinking.

CatSeany · 06/08/2022 10:47

An hour per unit from when you stopped drinking I'd say.

If you don't drink often I definitely wouldn't drive today.

Seeline · 06/08/2022 10:48

How much did you drink?
When did you have your last drink?

An hour per unit from when you stopped drinking I'd say.

This. Definition of a unit is what the average human body processes in an hour. Count from when you stopped drinking.

This is good too:

Honestly if you stopped drinking before 12 you’ll be fine this afternoon (assuming you didn’t have 6 bottles of wine or something!)

Arnaquer · 06/08/2022 10:51

I generally wait 12 hours but it all depends how much you've had.

watermelonlipbalm · 06/08/2022 10:53

Thanks all!
I had twelve hours in my head for some reason but obviously I don't want to take any risks!

I guess it depends whether you were nursing pints for an hour, or downing cocktails with flaming sambucca chasers.

DownNative · 06/08/2022 11:19

Depends where in the UK you are as Scotland is stricter than England, Wales and Northern Ireland regarding limit.

balalake · 06/08/2022 11:26

Work night out on a Friday would be a proposal that would be 'no thank you' in a heartbeat. Suggest you don't drive today.

Nice to read that you are caring about others and don't want to end up injured or worse.

watermelonlipbalm · 06/08/2022 12:54

@balalake of course I care about others which is why I wanted to check when was safe to drive ☺️

Depends what your definition of pretty merry is. For some it is 8 units, others it is 18.

NothingIsWrong · 06/08/2022 13:01

My maximum is 6 pints, so I won't drive for 12 hours after getting home. 2 units a pint, 1 hour a unit.

Vainandjustrealised · 06/08/2022 13:03

I dont drive at all the next day
I am in scotland

I know someone who was breathalised on the m8 in the afternoon after not drinking from 11pm the dag before and was caught out
