Can anyone tell me if Ramsgate is good for a day trip with family please?

I'd go to Broadstairs instead. There's not much in Ramsgate.

I love Ramsgate! Great beach, nice little shops by the marina, a couple of arcades. If you want a beach day out I'd recommend it.

Broadstairs would be better if you have small children, but Ramsgate is okay for adults. If the weather is good, you can sit outside one of the bars or upstairs in the Pavilion and look over at the harbour. There are shops, bars and restaurants and a small beach.

Thank you. We're taking mil who doesn't like sitting around on a beach all day but wanted to be near the sea.
The marina and shops sound good.

Broadstairs is much nicer...was there yesterday in fact. There's a folk week on at the moment.
Haven't been to Ramsgate for a while but the beach and harbour area are nice, the town is quite run down. If you're going by train, the station is a fair walk from the town/beach.

What sort of thing would you be wanting to do on the day out? Where are you travelling from? There might be better options.

Ramsgate is ok but I wouldn't pick it for a day trip myself.

I think I’d prefer Margate or Broadstairs for a day out. I love Margate, great promenade for walking and you can walk along the prom to Broadstairs and on to Ramsgate if you wish. Broadstairs has pretty shops and a lovely little harbour.

We did the walk from Margate to Ramsgate. By the time we got to Ramsgate I was knackered but didn’t love the place. Beaches were better in Broadstairs and Margate and the station was a hell of a walk.

We went to Ramsgate a few years ago, after a gap of quite a few years. The harbour and beachfront was fine but the town itself seemed very rundown. Broadstairs is very different and a better destination for a day trip in that area.

I would suggest Folkestone instead. Near the sea, obviously, with some lovely little shops and fabulous harbour arm.

@TheGoodEnoughWife thanks for the suggestion. Folkestone sounds great! Smile

Just an update - we went to Folkestone and who knew it was such a lovely place for a short trip.
Loved The Leas and Creative Quarter, the harbour arm was fab as was the beach.
Thank you again for the suggestion @TheGoodEnoughWife
