Had my IUD replaced today..

I don’t have any children, however would like to TTC in a few years.
had my IUD removed and refitted today, and whilst the replacement took probably 30 seconds it was the most unbearable pain I have ever felt (even with an anaesthetic spray). Since I have no children I can only wonder whether this pain compares to child birth and was wondering if any others who have had children & a coil could advise me whether I’m just being a wuss or have this pain to look forward to hours on end in a few years time?

This was my second coil. Insertion was more painful this time around but have had no pain since, whereas it was the opposite way round last time I had it done!

I've have 3 kids but I have to have a cervical block to numb my cervix completely for a coil insertion.

No, it's a totally different pain. Childbirth pains build, feel purposeful, have a kind of pattern to them. I mean yes it hurts, but it's totally different. You know how muscles hurt after exercise? It's sort of virtuous pain, iyswim!
The coil insertion was an unexpected sharp stab that went right through me!

Totally different.

I have given birth 5 times and I also have a mirena coil.

The pain is not comparable or similar, IME.

It's a different type of pain. When you are in labour you have the option of drugs to take the edge off it but with a coil insertion it's a short, sharp shock and over pretty quickly.

I've had two children and didn't find the coil that bad, it's worse than a smear but not unbearable in my experience. I also believe it depends on where you are in your cycle on the pain scale because of the position of your cervix.

I currently have a mirena and I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy at the same time. It was uncomfortable but not painful. The only bit that hurt was the biopsy itself.
