Draw round hands and decorate them with glue and stick things on found outside?
geocaching - the apps are usually free.
many free museums?
the library
swap toys with a friend for a couple of days

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 04/08/2022 22:25

Botanics plus inverleith park can easily make a whole day if you take a picnic

My kids adore The museum of Scotland but tbh we do avoid while tourist crazy.

Some free/cheap things my 3 have done this week…
Park with picnic and a frisbee/ball/kite
blackberry picking with baking afterwards
play date with friends
go on a bus/train to a cafe for ice cream
scavenger hunt in a local forest. This could be dressed up as ‘bingo’ with sweets as a prize for a
full house

Have a little party even if it's nobody's birthday
Make bath bombs
Go to the Lego store very early
Make bee bombs and guerilla garden

When we're very bored we captured a garden snail and researched how to make a habitat/vivarium for it out of stuff we had a home. The kids looked after the snail for around 3 weeks before they got bored and I liberated it.

Find some good sticks and decorate them into magic wands

Walk across Forth Road Bridge (if youngest in buggy?)
Picnic on Cramond Island
Portobello
North Berwick on the train
Berry picking at Craigies (not free but you get fruit to take home, our DC love it)

Lucienandjean · 04/08/2022 22:48

Picnic on Porty beach, or Musselburgh even.

Library (check if they've got any special activities on)

Botanics

The park at Saughton. Enough to entertain a wide range of ages.

Gorgie Farm

A tram ride or a bus ride (not free but cheap) either to one of the suggested places, or just for the ride.
