If someone asks you this and your having a bad day, are you able to open up about how you really feel or do you just say I'm fine thanks?

Depends who's asking. My husband or my best friend, yes, definitely. Random person I don't know very well, probably not.

BigFatLiar · 04/08/2022 19:04

Depends who asks, mostly it would be I'm fine though

thefirstmrsrochester · 04/08/2022 19:05

With the exception of two or three people, I’d just say I’m ok.

MaggieFS · 04/08/2022 19:08

Totally depends on the context. Colleagues in passing yes, friends meeting up, I'd be more open.

Honestly, right this moment in time I burst into tears no matter who is asking because my sister died last month.

Ordinarily, I keep the truth for people who I matter to. Everyone else gets vanilla responses.

User354354 · 04/08/2022 19:40

Surely it depends on the person asking, how you feel in that exact moment, and how it's worded.

'' hi, you okay, did you have a nice weekend?'

'I've noticed you haven't been yourself lately, are you okay ?'

Two very different questions.

SpicePearl · 04/08/2022 19:46

I’ve said ‘Yeah I’m fine!!!’ to loads of people today. I’m really not.

ThatshallotBaby · 04/08/2022 19:48

Not too bad thanks, how are you?
I’m not great atm.

Kite22 · 04/08/2022 19:58

Totally depends on the situation.
Who is asking.
why they are asking
What your relationship is with them
What their tone is.

RSitf · 04/08/2022 20:06

@OfficiallyBroken sorry to hear about your sister.
As others have said depends whose asking: tonight I’ve had a meltdown to a friend..others I’d just say I’m fine to.

GCBookseller · 04/08/2022 20:09

I just say ‘yeh, am good thanks, you?’.

Because I know nobody’s actually interested.

This is exactly how I feel as well. No one ever follows it up with a 'but are you really ok?' so it remains a throwaway line that no one expects an answer to apart from 'fine thanks'.

Probably for the best - if I answered truthfully I'd probably break down in front of the person asking and it would be awkwardness all round!

bippityboppity87 · 04/08/2022 22:42

Depends. DP or close family member - honest. Someone at work or mum friend, I just say I'm fine thanks. The latter, depending on how close the relationship is, I might open up a bit more. But I've been stung before when opening up about personal stuff when I was vulnerable and it didn't end well. So I'm always in two minds about it

NeedToLeaveNow · 04/08/2022 22:43

Fine thanks

Cause no-one really cares
