Question about professional chefs

Any chefs here or do you know any?

I have a weird question. When you see TV chefs they often whip up a sauce to go on the side of a dish with about 10 weird and wonderful ingredients in.

Do they do this at home too so they have a fridge full of tarragon root (this isn't a thing I've made it up) with nothing to use it in? Their shopping bill must be £££ if so.

Can anyone give me an answer so I can sleep tonight please?

My brother is a chef, he will use what he has to hand or buy specific ingredients for planned dishes.
TV is not real life, they plan what they are going to cook!

Ha, I'd love a chef to do series where they make fabulous meals but a weeks worth so you could see how to use all the ingredients you've got left!

Most of the ones I know have a fridge full of beer and live on toast and McDonald's 🤣 they cook the most amazing food at work and are always experimenting (perk of the job getting to taste test as floor staff 😁) but IME put very little thought into what they personally eat, probably because they're knackered and sick of cooking.

On the occasions that they've hosted a get together or similar they usually shop specifically for whatever they've got planned to cook, or throw something together with what they've got to hand, which is where I think their strength is, that they know what works and what doesn't with the stuff they already have.
