Tech people - how did DH's files come to be on my work laptop?

Noticed this morning a file entitled 'name of DH - files 18177161'. On my desktop, in a folder. It's from 2021.

There's about 30 files. I haven't opened any of them. I've googled their names and it's seems to be some sort of masking software ( called Bootstrap).

Now I haven't noticed this file before - just wondering how it's got there. DH has no access to my work computer.

Any thoughts?

Do you share a cloud storage backup?

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 04/08/2022 18:23

When you say 'name of DH - files' is it just his first name? And do you have any work colleagues of the same first name?

WhisperGold · 04/08/2022 18:25

OneDrive?

FixTheBone · 04/08/2022 18:28

Drop box or some other cloud storage.

mackthepony · 05/08/2022 16:11

But would onedrive or dropbox sync if the computers aren't linked? His Onedrive and Dropbox isn't logged in on my laptop. Nothing of his is on my laptop, he's never accessed it.

And no, there's no-one with his name that works in my team

Do you connect to your home WiFi network? If your laptop is visible on that he might be able to access it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/08/2022 16:49

Have you connected a USB stick thing?

Could they be backup files of DH that he stored on a USB stick, that automatically copied themselves to your computer if you had connected it?

Have you asked DH?

mackthepony · 05/08/2022 16:55

Yes, work laptop is connected to home WiFi.

No, I haven't asked DH.

I haven't connected a USB to my work laptop, ever.

Just seems really odd.

Following with great interest as a bunch of attachments to hotmail messages in my account “mysteriously “ ended up on a disk used to download an outlook profile from H’s work computer, and I’d love to hear if there is any legitimate way that happened.

So it's not just me, atilla!

It does make me concerned about data privacy. Where I work everything is very confidential and monitored... So not sure I'm comfortable with some random files appearing on my desktop.
