Can anyone tell me what would be a reasonable amount to pay a month for an 18 yr old male from UK studying in USA and playing a team sport?

It's incredibly difficult to say without knowing more details or the specifics of the policies. If he is studying, does he get insurance through his university? I studied in the US and my insurance was via the university. I don't think I actually paid anything because was subsidised by the uni, but did need to obviously pay for any appointments, tests, dental visits, etc. As an individual person (not a family) on a normal plan, it wouldn't be unusual to pay several hundred a month, but totally depends on the policy itself.

When I studied in the US the college had an insurance plan and I took that. It was expensive, £700 for a year nearly 20 years ago.

If he's playing a sport out there I would be surprised if they don't recommend the plan for him.

Incidentally if you're asking because the college/uni have a plan and you're not sure if what they charge is reasonable, don't mess around with US healthcare, take the recommendation and accept the cost
