To leave a WhatsApp group or ask to be removed?

I was added to a group in January by an acquaintance as we share a hobby and it was with the idea of arranging to meet up to do this. However, there have been no meetups yet, just general chit chat. The other 7 are all good friends and were in this group before I was, so I tend not to contribute because I feel like an outsider. Would have contributed though if there was outings being planned. I feel like I want to leave it now and am wondering about the etiquette- leave, or ask the person who added me to remove me? I don't want to appear rude.

I would probably just mute the group.

I think it would be odd to ask to be removed when you can just remove yourself. I'd leave and just tell your friend you're trying to cut down on phone time or something.

I'm going against the tide here. I don't think you should feel obliged to join a WhatsApp group. Yes your daughter may miss out on some opportunities but you're content with that so no problem, that doesn't make you selfish. People come as a package and I dare say there are pluses and minuses that go with having you as a mum - she'll be getting her outside activities for starters.
I've just started a new job. I've been told about their WhatsApp group. I asked is this social or work and was told "a bit of both", so I'll be declining that offer. Yes I'll miss out on stuff but on balance I'm prepared to do that.
