What does a GHIC cover?

The gov website is very vague as to what you can use a GHIC for. I’m on holiday in France and my DS has an infected bite or cut or splinter on his leg. I’ve been to two pharmacies as I don’t have any medicine here and they’ve both said to take him to a doctor, I was only after savlon, I don’t think it looks that bad!

Will the GHIC cover it? I don’t think it falls into urgent but it does need something and I’m here for another three days.

I also have insurance so I’m not too worried but would be easier to just wave a GHIC around.

To be clear, I have a doctors appointment for him this afternoon. Just speculating at probable cost of the appointment and antibiotics.

It should mean that you are treated on the same footing as a resident, so if they have to pay, so will you but at resident's rates. you can then claim back the remaining expense from your travel insurance (minus excess, so often not worth doing so)

It's essentially the same as an EHIC, except that we have't reached a reciprocal agreement with Norway yet
