Does my toe look broken?

My horse got scared (by a sheep!) and jumped onto my foot today. It now looks like this. It is very painful but not excruciating. I don't need painkillers. It isn't throbbing. I can move it but it hurts A LOT. Walking on it hurts. I don't normally bruise much so not sure I've ever had such a dramatic bruise before. This happened about 4 hours ago so I assume the bruising will be even worse tomorrow.

I've read that treatment for a broken toe and bruised toe is the same so no point seeing a doctor or getting an x-ray. Just curious if people have had similar and how I can tell if its broken rather than just bruised?

No idea but whatever - it looks bloody painful! And yes, they won’t do anything for a broken toe but if it is really painful I think you can strap it to the toe next to it to stop it wobbling about.

I broke my toe and it looked like that for 2 weeks! Was a pain to walk on.

Allmarbleslost · 03/08/2022 23:42

Yes probably. Looks like mine did when I broke it. Ice, painkillers and rest op.

Looks like mine did. Just taped it to the adjoining toe. Hurt for ages.

Yep definitely looks broken and looks exactly like mine did when I broke mine.

I fixed it with a thin wad of cotton wool between toes and then gently micro pore tape to the next toe. Alternatively you can go to A&E for 9 hours where they will x Ray it and then do exactly the same.

Bruising like that.. did it start as a ring? Yup that is broken

yea there is very little that can be done so just do your best to protect it and it’ll heal.

PinkButtercups · 03/08/2022 23:57

It does look broken and very sore!

You're better strapping that up to hell the healing process.

HELP

Penguintears · 03/08/2022 23:57

Thanks all. Not sure how it looked at first as only just taken off my riding boots to look at it! Slightly concerned how black it will be in the morning.

Not great timing as going on holiday on Friday. Thankfully a lazy holiday rather than a walking one!

Tape it to the next toe, called buddy strapping, and try wearing crocs. I found those made it less painful than normal shoes, think the stiffness of them stops that part bending as much which equals less pain when walking👍 I did go to A&E, but only because I work there😂they don't x-ray for broken toes as it makes no difference to the treatment.

My broken little toe looked pretty much the same, strap it to its neighbour and be prepared for the bruising to spread. I got a very attractive thing called a Darco shoe which is kind of like a sandal version of a moonboot but designed to take the weight off the front of the foot. Hideous but helped a lot!

Yikes, not ideal when going on a beach holiday!
