Off for a few days to an Airbnb. Going to the water park and paddle boarding. Need restaurants and cafe recommendations please, plus any gems of quirky things to do
Kids 15 and 10, eat most stuff but I'm veggie
Thank you!

For York, try Pairings wine bar, the Cosy Club and if you want to splash out, The Ivy. We like Bills too, good food and good value also The Starr Inn the city on the river and agree with the railway museum, it’s free and pretty interesting.

When we were in Scarborough last year DH and DS went on a speedboat fast ride from the harbour while I waited with the dog and a glass of wine. It cost about £6 each for 10 minutes iirc and they said it was totally worth it. They just went and queued up and it wasn't a long wait despite how busy the town was.

We liked the castle too. Lovely views and good for a bit of clambering.

I would recommend Pomodoro Italian restaurant in Scarborough, it seems to by run by authentic Italians and everything is made fresh, the food was lovely when I last went.

You must go to 'Olivers on the Mount'.
It is located on a hill with a tremendous view over the castle and bay in Scarborough. Lovely food as well.

We had ice cream from Crema e cioccolata nearly every day when we visited Scarborough last year, and lovely fish and chips from Smallfry on North Street

We ended up in the Cut & Craft tonight for steak. It was delicious, as was the bubble miss cocktail!

The Lookout on the Pier is the best place we found to eat in Scarborough (Facebook page only)! Fab seafood and lots of non-seafood choices, great location and friendly service. We ate here twice in three days, and if we'd found it earlier we would have eaten here three times!

@FionnulaTheCooler Pomodoro was lovely thanks 😊

I realise you have been now but I just wanted to recommend Gianni's for anyone else going. My favourite Italian
I have family in Scarborough and they all rate it. We are going to stay at the Sands for a few days soon and I've booked Gianni's.

Did you do the escape rooms @Mortonpup ? I came on to suggest it but see I'm too late and you've been, but might help someone else looking - they were really good!

ethelredonagoodday · 15/08/2022 23:18

Hope you had a good time OP! I'm a Scarborian, but now live in York, so was interested in your post when I came across it!

If you're not from Yorkshire you need to be aware that, as a veggie, just about all fish and chip shops use beef dripping. Google to see if there's any that use vegetable oil, but it might be special order.

If you're interested in the castle, or Whitby Abbey, M&S Sparks card has a half price offer for English Heritage.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2022 06:38

Oh, just seen that you've already been. As you were.
