Monday morning I was in bed and felt something bite/ sting me, it felt more like a sting and it was really painful.
Today I noticed a raised bump with what looks like pus underneath and its hard. Redness has been getting bigger all day. I dont know what it was, do you think I should be concerned? Pic with black top is tonight. Thanks

If it's getting bigger I would ring 111. I'd say it's best to get proper advice.

LIZS · 03/08/2022 21:15

Draw a line around it, if spread further by morning see gp or minor injuries.

LookingGlassMilk · 03/08/2022 21:19

That looks like it's tracking in the more recent picture. I think you should get proper medical advice, call 111 or go to an out of hours GP tonight.

Could be a horsefly bite
They’re super painful and often need antibiotics

Draw a line around the redness so you can see if it is spreading
take a piriton or antihistamine and take the maximum dose you can from now
i would call 111 or your GP tomorrow - if overnight you start to feel feverish or unwell that can be a sign of infection so if that happens would seek more urgent advice - Same if the redness spreads

ice packs can be soothing and elevate

rubyslippers · 03/08/2022 21:23

Could be a localised allergic reaction rather than infection but do keep an eye

Thelnebriati · 03/08/2022 21:32

Take an anti histamine (cetirizine if you have it) and paracetamol, and ring 111.

DelilahBucket · 03/08/2022 21:35

Pop into a pharmacy rather than 111 as they can look at it and provide advice.

polkadotpixie · 03/08/2022 21:55

I had very similar at the weekend and posted about it. Another MNer suggested E45 with hydrocortisone and it worked a treat where antihistamines weren't touching it

middleofthelittle · 03/08/2022 21:58

It's fine take anti H.

Mine have gone dinner plate size before and they can't do anything unless its infected.

If it weeps and is hot go to pharmacy.

Thelnebriati · 03/08/2022 21:58

I had a similar bite recently and the pharmacist suggested using hydrocortisone cream around the bite, but don't let it touch broken skin.

Here are mine today - both legs bitten by something last night. Original bite on one leg now while calf hot and red. Both bites/inflammation larger than my hand. Taken antihistamines but not made any difference. I feel your pain 😩

minmooch · 03/08/2022 22:08

Middle picture was this morning on my right leg, first picture this evening. Third pic left leg this evening

Namenic · 03/08/2022 22:18

draw line around it. See GP - you may need antibiotics. If you have other symptoms like dizziness, fever, difficulty breathing then go to a&e. Most insect bites should resolve either on their own or with some oral antibiotics, but v rarely the infection can progress quickly and give you other symptoms and you might need iv antibiotics (speak to 111 if you are unsure).

also, if whole leg is swollen, you might need to see gp/hospital as bad insect bites can increase risk of blood clots(DVT).

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 03/08/2022 22:19

This is currently my monster of a mosquito bite. I usually get a reaction to anything that bites me but this is the worst my far.
Antihistamines work well in my experience.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 03/08/2022 22:53

Antihistamine draw round it some paracetamol if in pain and I use anthisan cream
