I’ve been told I need to pay a certain amount by 5 aug

But I don’t have it. If I paid as much as I do have and showed a bank statement would that be acceptable ? I’m waiting on a UC application to be processed . The amount I can pay is approximately half what they are demanding

who needs the money? Council? Landlord? Private association?

either way I suspect they’ll accept your offering and proof that your claim is in process

You can't give them what you haven't got. Pay as much as you can afford and provide evidence of your benefit claim and bank statement is a good plan. Unless they already started court action?

It’s the Local authority as it’s a council flat

You can ask for an advance of your universal credit payment. The issue will be if you are in arrears and have an advance how do you plan to pay the next instalment?
