Worried I will regret this move..?

I’m a single mum and due to exchange on a property near my parents next week. It’s a village with a few pubs and nice walls, fifteen mins to nearest town.

I currently live on the outskirts of a city and I love having all the shops on my doorstep (even on the outskirts). I like the anonymity too.

I thought being near to parents would be a comfort in some ways just having them nearby. The reality is that they will do zero childcare and we have had a tricky relationship in the past. I think practically they will offer hot meals every day or so which will be a help and of course it’s nice to have family nearby.

I just keep having second thoughts and part of it I think is giving up my life near the city. All the things I thought I was ready to give up in favour of somewhere a bit more picturesque and calmer, a bigger garden and more space. House is much nicer and bigger and school is better.

Am I just panicking? Would you move?

In terms of friends they are spread all over. So that’s not really a factor as I will be as close to them in the new place as I would near the city. I can’t help feeling it’s a step back. I don’t know. Panicking!

nearer to tricky relationship parents? hell no.

movifn · 03/08/2022 17:26

@godmum56 thats my concern too. They are not the sorts to ‘pop in’ or anything like that but i wonder if I am better further away.

What has prompted you to move?

movifn · 03/08/2022 17:29

@sunshinesupermum i always felt I wanted to before I even had DC. Just like the countryside and wanted a bigger house but not near a city. Now it’s happening I’m re thinking it all!

And I did want to be closer to family. I have lots of friends but not near where I currently am so the move also makes no difference from that perspective

Try it and if it doesn't suit you can always move again

You're having last minute nerves thst's all. Hot meal every few days sounds great!

Go with your gut.

Could you rent and see how it goes?
