So worried about cervical cancer

watermelonlipbalm · 03/08/2022 17:11

I've fallen down a google mightmare, although tbh it wasn't that difficult which is making me more worried!

To cut a long story short, i'm 31 years old. I have a two and five-year-old son. About 3 weeks ago I started noticing some bloody discharge on my tissue. Not enough to require a pad, just when I wiped. Started off brown, now red. Not a period.
Started around the time of expected ovulation. It hasn't stopped. No period as of yet.
The bloody is there pretty much every time I wipe.
I called the go 2 weeks ago who took a week to see me. Did a swap for thrush only. No thrush.
I'm now REALLY worried. When o google spotting cervical cancer comes up. When I read people's stories it always starts with cervical cancer.
I've posted a few times on her and nobody has responded with any experience about constant spotting :(
I'm so worried.
I had 1 day of horrendous back and leg pain but other then that I feel fine. Sometimes I fee very minor pmt style cramps but literally nothing major at all.
What on earth is going on with me!!!!
I have a telephone call tomorrow with the go. I'm gonna ask for bloods and a scan. I'm just so worried.

Do you live any where near a walk-in GUM clinic? I know that a lot of my circle have started using our local one a bit more since their GPs started trying to do disgnoses over the phone.

But you should still talk to your GP and good luck with that. Definitely discuss the the bleeding and the unexplained pain. I'd also be asking for a gynae referral and a scan to determine what was happening. So many women endure fibroids and endometriosis (for example) for years without diagnoses or effective treatment being offered.

I'm sorry you're so worried Flowers

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/08/2022 18:21

If it helps I've had cervical cancer and didn't have any of those symptoms.

Notjustabrunette · 03/08/2022 18:24

I had bloody discharge, and it wasn’t cervical cancer.

But of course, please continue to get it checked out.

CointreauVersial · 03/08/2022 18:26

You are right to be concerned, and get it checked out without delay, because bleeding between periods can in some cases indicate a gynae cancer (uterine or cervical).

BUT there are many more benign explanations. Dr Google has a lot to answer for!

See what the GP suggests; they can refer you on the Two Week Pathway if they are concerned, so you will get a quick diagnosis.

Try not to worry.

Legoninjago1 · 03/08/2022 18:27

I had that and it turned out to be polyps. Nothing scary at all. You're right to check it out though. Was last smear ok?

Muffinsong · 03/08/2022 18:32

I’ve had cervical cancer and didn’t have these symptoms, just bleeding during sex, bright red blood. Get it checked but don’t worry to much. You’ll probably have a colposcopy to check

RedSquirrelRoar · 03/08/2022 18:44

I’ve had spotting between periods a lot during my 30s - had scans and been seen by gynaecology and they decided it was hormonal. Its apparently very common! It usually started around ovulation and would sometimes last until my period. Going on mini pill has stopped it (and stopped my periods).

RedSquirrelRoar · 03/08/2022 18:50

Just to add that my spotting also often coincided with long cycles/late periods (eg 40 days instead of 28) - I think sometimes it’s because you haven’t ovulated that month (again, very common), so your hormones are out of kilter.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 03/08/2022 18:54

OP I'm going through the same thing at the moment.

Came home from holiday with what felt like Cystitis and then horrendous vaginal bleeding (including some clotting). I got an emergency appointment with my GP who referred me to a consultant at my local hospital. I'm currently waiting for an appointment - so much for a call within 2 days🙄 I'm in my sixties & haven't had a period for about 15 years.

Just remember that 9 out of 10 referrals turn out NOT to be cancer.

Arenanewbie · 03/08/2022 19:02

You are absolutely right that it should be checked, just wanted to tell that I had irregular periods and a lot of spotting in between in my 20s-30s and turned out that it was a polyp.

whatfreshheck · 03/08/2022 19:03

It's highly unlikely to be cancer. That being said, get it checked out by the GP. Any bleeding between periods should be investigated. Tell them your concerns. Xxxxx

DarlingDarwin · 03/08/2022 19:16

Have you done a pregnancy test?

watermelonlipbalm · 03/08/2022 19:40

Thanks all for the replies. Talking to people is really helpful and I really appreciate it more then I can say!
So I called the doctors 2 weeks ago, they said I wasn't urgent and asked me to ring back on the Monday so I did and they booked me for a swab 4 days later. Turns out they only swabbed me for thrush so here we are nearly 3 weeks later and I'm not further forward. I rang up on Monday saying how worried I was and I have a telephone app tomorrow.
This is just SO not like me. I have very long cycles, but I'm certain I haven't ovulated this month so part of me is just really hopeful it's hormonal but I can't stop worrying about cervical cancer.
I booked my smear a couple days before my symptoms started coincidentally but it's not until the end of august!

I often experience spotting from ovulation until I get my period. Fibroids are the cause in my case. There are many benign causes for spotting.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 03/08/2022 19:50

Thanks @watermelonlipbalm** it's hard not to think the worse.

I chased the hospital today but was told that the urgent consultation and 2 week appointment time wouldn't be happening because they were short staffed.

TheOGCCL · 03/08/2022 19:53

Was all ok with your last smear test?

Yes my last smear was fine although I am over due now. They sent me a chaser a while ago and I only booked it in the other week.
Obviously I'm absolutely furious at myself now :(
