DS starts high school in Sept, I don't want to get him the 'wrong' thing, so what's the 'right' thing?

Thanks!

Eldest used a sistema sandwich box (clear, or pink) chucked in her bag with a bottle of water.

Middle uses the same sandwich box, and has a lunch bag to put other tubs with fruit in too. He has much bigger appetite than she ever did.

Ds uses this one. We took out the pot and the very small tray bit but kept the big tray in place. Sandwich in the bottom. Fruit in the small compartments. He just sticks it in his rucksack so no lunchbag

Ds's lunch box was empty chocolate brownie boxes from Home Bargains. HIs schoolbag was always a nike or similar backpack.

Bland, nondescript grey thing that is as small as possible that will still hold lunch because the bag is so full. Bland and nondescript was the request I got. Nothing that would draw attention in any way.

Containers from the Chinese takeaway usually. Compact and fits in their school bag is key. Dd has a bento box from lidl for university (home student)

A box like the one above.

I found especially since Covid the children need to have so much in their school bags they don't have space a big lunch box. Also with PE, and food tech which tend to be in another bags (no lockers a school) I try to keep bags to a minimum.

Small plain grey or black plastic boxes if he remembers to bring them back.
Occasionally just a sandwich bag

Thank you, that's all really helpful.

It's a minefield getting all this right!
