Virgin media need to do some work outside my home for broadband. Any idea what that would entail?

Have decided to swap to VM for broadband and have received a text saying they will need to do some external work outside my home. They sent a link to a video but it was all pretty vague.

Any ideas what this could be?

They will bring a cable underground from a point in the pavement up to the house and then drill through your wall to bring the cable into the house. In our case they dug a flap of grass up and laid the cable underneath and then the grass was put down again.

That's assuming they do the same for you as they did for me

Cables. So they need to run a cable from the road to your house. They will also need to drill a very small hole to run the cable through your wall. Nothing to worry about but they will need clear access, ie get your car off the drive.

It depends on how much cabling/infrastructure already exists. We had that message when we switched to Virgin, but in the end all the engineer did was twiddle with some cables in the electricity wall box and wire in the router. But I'm in an area with existing cabling so there wasn't anything major to do.

Work out exactly where would be most convenient for you to have the cable coming into your house, and hopefully they will be able to accommodate you. Otherwise they will just drill wherever.

Do they fit an external box anywhere? Or is it just cabling?

Yes there's a box on an external wall too. Think ours is brown
