Vienna - classical concert

I'm shortly off to Vienna and I would like to go to a classical concert - does anyone know the best place to go and how to go about booking a show up? I hope I haven't left it too late to book something. Thank you.

If I recall correctly, there are ticket sellers all over the place selling tickets for live ensembles.
Last-minute would be fine (we went in May half term, not summer though. Not sure if that would make a difference).

You might find that a lot of theatres, especially, are closed in August (too hot and general holiday season). Not sure about the concert halls, they will be less lively than from Autumn onwards, but there are usually lovely opportunities for outdoor events. The Rathaus or Opera often has a lot of outdoor seating and a big screen showing things recorded earlier in the season, it's a very pleasant thing to do. Churches and possibly even the Stefansdom will be likely to offer some concerts, as they are cooler, they can be lovely.

There are regular outdoor concerts at Schoenbrunn palace, and sometimes in cooler parts of the grounds like the coach house or a small theatre (normally for puppets). Try www.viennaclassic.com/de/konzerte/alle-konzerte/ueberblick.html
(and I would advise booking ahead for these as it is a major tourist location both summer and winter, but big enough not to be over-run).

The general information for most venues can be found here: www.viennaconcerts.com/
If you see a 'Kartenburo' sign then this is the sign for a ticket booth; some of them are around Karlsplatz, in the shopping passages off the main underground stations, and some of the tram stops on the Ring.
