Gifts for someone going to uni?

My cousin is going away for uni soon and I'm wondering what I could get her? She'll have most of the essentials she'll need so I'm more thinking of getting her some kind of gift. We're not very sentimental with each other so I'm not sure what kind of gift would be appropriate.. My budget is around 50 - 100 pounds

You could offer to buy her a new rucksack for uni but I’m afraid students need money so maybe a voucher for a supermarket or for a clothes shop. DD made her cousin a family album of photographs to take with her. Other than that, a nice blanket/ throw or large cushion.

Small gift would be bottle opener/corkscrew - often overlooked because so many things don't need them any more but still damned useful

Or discreetly ask her parents if there was anything she wanted but was put off because over budget - get that

Leatherman type tool or Swiss Army knife

I gave my DSS a rice cooker. He used it a lot.

Alka seltzer and condoms.

Cutlery - it all goes missing.

A reclining camping chair

Student beans cookbook

Does she have decent headphones? Dd asked for Bluetooth headphones for her first Xmas after starting uni because they were good for cutting out background noise in college when she was studying.

But unless you can get some specific ideas of something she doesn't have but would like, best give money or vouchers.

Cash or a supermarket voucher is the best use of money. She can buy what she likes with cash and vouchers rather than giving her stuff that will gather dust.

Ask what she needs as she will no doubt have loads of stuff to get

Supermarket voucher or a nice warm blanket

The best gift is cash. So maybe a token gift such as a cushion from IKEA and the rest as money.

Uber vouchers to use after clubbing nights.

Cash or generic voucher such as supermarket, Just Eat or Amazon. I'm sure she'll have everything she needs and I wouldn't but anything personal that will take up space as some have suggested, as student rooms can be very small.

Uber vouchers to use after clubbing nights.

This is a great idea.

My aunt and I have never been close but a few weeks after I started uni she surprised me with a parcel of things I liked e.g, a book, chocolate. It was nice to get a parcel (this was before online shopping was so big) and nice to get something later rather than a specific “going to uni gift” particularly as I was concerned about money and not buying some of the things.

A biscuit barrel, the old fashioned type with an inbuilt crisper (Emma Bridgwater does some lovely ones) and a selection of biscuits - great when getting to know people in Freshers Week.
I'd then put some cash in an envelope and tell her to buy something she needs.

Or alcohol!
