Tips for very hot weather on holiday

We are going to France next week and it is due to be between 33-55 degrees every day.

Has anyone been in this sort of heat and can offer any tips please?

We have a pool so will be using it.

No air con, but have purchased 2 large fans to take.

Might bring a flat sheet to sleep under.

Stay in the shade. Keep the shutters closed all day til evening. Have lots of cold drinks and water in the fridge. Go shopping in one of the big supermarkets to cool down. Same advice as for when it's hot in this country really.

Be careful not to start any fires

55 is a typo surely. I know France can get very hot but ...

Im currently abroad in the Middle East and the weather ranges from 36- 39. In some places 42!

We have a pool too and try to get everyone in it. Sometimes the teens would rather not... lots of chilled drinks, watermelon. Light nibbles.

Yes, keep the house shut up and shutters or curtains drawn until early evening.
If you are overweight/have plump thighs and will be walking, buy anti chaff cream.
Lots of mosquito spray - Boots do a good one.
Full empty water bottles with tap water and freeze. Put in front of fans overnight.
Yes to the sheet.
Change your routines. Early start, naps after lunch, evening meal after 8

I was on holiday weaning in these sorts of temps. Worth looking up cold recipes for babies. Avocado and mashed banana was a lifesaver.
Same applies for older children especially if fussy eaters. Usual easy salvation food may not be appealing in hot weather.

What works for us, is to rearrange our day. So breakfast outdoors, any trips or shopping etc before about 11. Then lunch and a siesta / reading / screens indoors until it cools down a bit in the late afternoon. Swimming to cool off, but not right in the middle of the day unless the pool is shaded. Lots of fruit and cold drinks. Then eat late, stay up later than usual and use the evening for sitting out.
