What do the MC drink?

Inspired by another thread. I thought it was prosecco and gin, am I wrong?

Which bit of the MC are you thinking of?

AppleBottomRats · 03/08/2022 00:20

Both of those are very mainstream. I don’t think they’re especially MC.

I’d say Belvoir/Bottlegreen drinks. And biodynamic wine.

Darlissima · 03/08/2022 00:22

Mc is middle class? I think Prosecco is out especially as so many manufacturers used the trend to sell shit wine at a premium. Gin still
in as it always has been.

Don’t know really. Whatever MC everyone else refers to on mumsnet!

AmbushedByCake1 · 03/08/2022 00:24

Wine ordered from the Wine Society.

SwelegantParty · 03/08/2022 00:24

Gin- flavoured gin and tonic. None of your flavoured nonsense.

HauntingScream · 03/08/2022 00:26

Some don't drink at all!

rnsaslkih · 03/08/2022 00:29

Water is my favourite drink. Especially like the taste of hard water.

Onlyhereforthebatshitneighbours · 03/08/2022 00:30

I'm quite partial to supping on the blood of the working class, myself. But only those from worthy occupations, the rest make a very poor vintage.

🙄

Absolutely not gin or prosecco.

I'm currently drinking creme de menthe.

I'm also partial to a sherry.

'The Wine Society' Lolz.

Berry Bros.

Single malts.

I'm not sure about the MC and their drinking habits. I listened to a podcast today that informed me a middle-class income was around 60k per household.

I was quite shocked.

I'm not sure that the middle-class can actually afford to drink.

Antigonesaunt · 03/08/2022 00:43

The middle class people I know drink their coffee coffee flavoured (usually in a french press), their wine red, their gin and tonic traditionally flavoured, eat bread made from real flour (sourdough), if they smoke they smoke rolling tobacco occasionally wouldn't dream of vaping, of course this is done only socially, their exercise is running or sweating privately in some kind of secret gym in their house (usually in the garage), they don't talk about money, and they don't like flashy symbols of wealth.

They don't do SUVs, Prosecco, or funny flavoured anything.

illiterato · 03/08/2022 00:44

I'd say the two cast iron MC rules of boozing are

only wine/ champagne or beer (or water) with meals - not spirits or soft drinks
only soda, tonic or water as mixers for spirits

Antigonesaunt · 03/08/2022 00:45

The big class divide being that they drink water for pleasure, with or without bubbles and that's the primary beverage. Other than some early grey or green tea, maybe

Antigonesaunt · 03/08/2022 00:46

Of course that would go out the window if there was home brewed kombucha, craft beer or home made elderflower wine

FelixMadrigal · 03/08/2022 00:47

What do you have crème de menthe with?

OP posts:
Antigonesaunt · 03/08/2022 00:47

Biscotti?

takeitandleaveit · 03/08/2022 00:49

I used to know someone who worked for The Wine Society. He had been trained by a Master of Wine, and taught me rather a lot.

It was years ago now, but I'm still reasonably adept at a blind tasting. Smile Wine
(blows own trumpet, ignore me!)

A cigarette.

Yes. Water. Always a glass of water. Sparkling at home. Tap when out.

Crème de menthe?;with Pernod and water, it's called a perroquet in France, and is lovely.

Quite a party trick. You put the Pernod in a dry glass, no ice, tilt the glass and then pour the crème de menthe down the side. It's denser, so goes underneath. You get a pretty drink with a green layer underneath. Then you add water and it all goes cloudy.

AristoltlesMaths · 03/08/2022 01:53

I'm into that @newtb!

Never champagne with food surely?

AristoltlesMaths · 03/08/2022 02:07

No @user1477249785 .

Never champagne with food.

Never champagne ever really.

Just a sip to show willing.
