How to remove the been stored in cupboard for years from this box?

I've just acquired a wooden box I've had my eye on for years & brought it home tonight. But it's been stored in a cupboard for at least 7 years, that I know of, probably many more than that tbh, & has that not touched in forever smell about it.

Apart from sanding it back to the wood & airing it very well outside, are there any other ways to help get rid of the smell?

Get it in the sun! That and dump a load of bicarb in it to absorb any mustiness.

Uff, I'm tired, my title needed the word *smell in it 🙄

It will be off in the garden tomorrow while I'm in & I'll start cleaning it up too.

It actually worked fine without it, oddly Smile

It did, but I did mean the smell. I'm glad it was understandable, either way!

Wash it with a damp (not wet) soapy cloth and leave outside to dry. If you are going to sand and repaint /varnish/wax etc the box, it will smell different after.
