I’ve never done one of these threads before. I also didn’t have any tattoos until I was 36.

you may not give a shit. But if anyone is curious, ask away.

I have a couple as I'm considering my first at nearly 40! In my case, in memory of someone who died.

Did you design your tattoo(s) entirely yourself, how much input did you have from the artist?
How did you choose your tattoist?
How painful have you found it? How long is it painful for?

Why?

FreudayNight · 02/08/2022 13:07

are you worried it will be a bit shit, and embarrassing either immediately or in the future?

Have you heard of the AMA board?

I followed all the local tattoo shops and started taking note of designs and artists I liked. once I found an artist that was doing similar things to what I liked I booked a consultation with her. I knew what my brief was but not the design. So I gave her the brief and she drew something up for me which I liked. Arm was fine not really that painful until the end. Foot is much more painful.
First one was sore, like sunburn is, for about a week then eased off.

why? I’ve wanted a tattoo for years and years. Since I was 16 really but never liked anything enough to commit! It’s only recently that I’ve seen designs I connect with (I love mandalas and dot work and really delicate work) Also removal technology has moved on so far now that even if I do regret it in years to come I have the option of removal.

Did you take your design and ask for it, or did the artist have any input ?
How much like your original design is it ?

SucculentSunshine · 02/08/2022 13:39

No. Sorry am I posting in the wrong place? I do apologise. I haven’t paid much attention to where these show up.

Where are you having it on your body

why do you want one

SucculentSunshine · 02/08/2022 13:40

The artist pretty much designed the whole thing. I knew what I wanted but couldn’t have commited it to paper.
she drew it based on my ideas and then we edited and discussed it until I was happy.
I have been so happy with the result though.

First one was arm second one is foot. Placement decisions took me ages too.
