Out of Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, which would you choose? Or somewhere else closeish to those?

I've only done this in Birmingham and was wondering if a change would be better.

I love Liverpool but I've never been to the other 2 so can't compare. Just walk down Bold Street and you have your pick of fantastic restaurants with food from all over the world

MissAmbrosia · 02/08/2022 10:13

Love Liverpool.

KangarooKenny · 02/08/2022 10:14

Liverpool every time.

MerylSqueak · 02/08/2022 10:27

Is a good shopping bit easy to find in Liverpool or do you have to travel to a shopping centre? What's good about Birmingham for us is you walk out of New Street and it's all there.

I live in Manchester and the town centre around the shops is a bit of a dump. Trafford Centre is much better, but not what you asked for. Liverpool is a good day out for shopping as Liverpool One centre is relatively new, has a nice big John Lewis too.

I'd choose Liverpool over Birmingham if you've done Brum before.

IsDaveThere · 02/08/2022 10:58

I'd choose either Manchester or Liverpool. I have been to all 3 but don't really like Birmingham as much.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 02/08/2022 10:59

I'm a Brummie and have visited Manchester several times.
I'd pick Liverpool.

Some relatives stayed there once and couldn't stop talking about it.
Loads to see and do and a great vibe.

cherrypiepie · 02/08/2022 11:00

I've done all three. Liverpool is nice as there is the touristy bits in the Albert dock area and some nice hotels.

Shopping is in Liverpool 1 which is excellent.

Manchester this nice but huge and tiring.Arndale centre isn't as nice as Liverpool one but the sea scare shopping is nice.

Birmingham is nice in the bullring.

Generally get a decent deal at a malmaison in each of these places

cherrypiepie · 02/08/2022 11:01

Sea scare?? DEANSGATE

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 02/08/2022 11:21

Not a fan of Birmingham
lived in Manchester for several years and agree, the area around the arndale is very tired and picadilly gardens in particular is horrible.
Liverpool would get my vote

AuntieMarys · 02/08/2022 11:28

Liverpool

cherrypiepie · 02/08/2022 12:36

Liverpool one is right in the centre.

Piccadilly In Manchester is really dreadful agrees. Unfortunately that is where my train goes from

curlycat · 02/08/2022 19:03

Liverpool 1 is the main shopping area right in the city centre or you can jump on the bus or train and go to the Metro Centre

curlycat · 02/08/2022 19:04

Sorry metro centre is newcastle which is another great city for a weekend

SingingSands · 02/08/2022 19:07

Liverpool - everything is on the doorstep: shopping, eating, drinking, hotels, entertainment.

Had a fab overnight stay with my DD a few months ago.

GetOffTheRoof · 02/08/2022 19:07

Liverpool.

Liverpool One shopping centre is almost the entire city centre and is enormous.

Go to Mowgli for dinner.

Stay somewhere like the Malmaison - about a 15min walk into the city centre.

purplecorkheart · 02/08/2022 19:07

Liverpool for me. I know so many people who have been there and loved it.

gogohmm · 02/08/2022 19:12

Liverpool, went last year, best 2 day city break I've ever done in the U.K.. so amazingly friendly, brilliant bars with live music, interesting museums. Didn't go shopping though, have shops at home- never understood why you would go on holiday to shop

KindergartenKop · 02/08/2022 19:42

Portsmouth is lovely.

MerylSqueak · 02/08/2022 20:33

Looks like Liverpool wins hands down. Thank you for your advice everyone.

Premier Inn at Liverpool One is great - unless you were planning to splash out on something posher. Right the heart of everything, and 5 mins to Lime Street and the Albert Doc. Staff are lovely.

MerylSqueak · 02/08/2022 22:14

Thanks. I love a Premier Inn!
